Default New Here

Hello everyone. My name is Brad. I'm new on here. I've got a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 8.0L V10. I'm looking for ways to increase power and gas mileage but I can't find parts for this motor anywhere. I just recently changed the spark plugs and plug wires but that's all that's been done. I'm not sure what generation the truck is or if it's considered an SRT-10. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to DF. Moving to the correct section. V-10's are hard to find parts for.

The 8.0 V10 is hard to find parts for. You're limited to and exhaust, intake and simple mods unfortunately. You are not an SRT-10 tho, but the good news is the 8.0 was also in the original Viper, so some parts may transfer over.

I remember a thread way back there was a guy cross referencing pistons and rods to make a stroker kit for them but I can't find that.

You should head to the 2nd gen section and for quick answers, get on a Magnum V10 facebook page. Unfortunately, forums have dwindled

2002 is that weird year that is like in between 2nd gen and 3rd gen. For the purposes of this forum, 2002 is 3rd gen, but I understand it has a 2nd gen body? It's always a coin toss for me when moving posts as to which section it goes in...lol

2002 1500 is a 3rd gen, the 2500 is a 2nd gen still
like the 2009 1500 is 4th gen, but 2500 is still a 3rd.

The 8.0 was also available till 03 and one of the rarest trucks to find is an 03 2500 with the v10 and manual trans.

Very few if any parts transfer between even the original Viper engine and the truck engine, as the truck engine is cast iron while everything in the Viper engine is aluminum and some things were redesigned because of it. I read about a V10 swap into a '97 SS/T 1500. He was able to get about 400hp out of it, but the torque was unholy.

Very well then. I'm sure there's some fabricators out there for OP who'd love to take his money for one off parts tho

Here's the truck I'm talking about. Covered in mud at this point though.

It's a monster on torque, just not fast. I'm wanting to make it fast but retain the torque that it has and not pay for custom fabrication. I know that's gonna be hard to do with this motor though. Does anyone know if a snorkel acts like a cold air intake since it's away from the engine compartment? Someone told me it would actually cut power since it has to pull air down the whole length of the snorkel.

It's certainly NOT the SRT. My father-in-law had a 2001 V-10. Man, I loved that truck. 75 mph and only 1,600 rpm. As for increasing power AND mileage - seriously?!

Well at least increase power. I'm not too worried about gas mileage. It gets around 8mpg so it's not like it can get much worse.
