That would be a question for your garage. Likely several hours labor at any rate.

If you think the engine is toast, (and that doesn't seem to far from likely) just replace it, and call it a day. Get the motor with the best warranty.

^^^ This. DO this.

You're talking about dropping a ton of $$ into a truck that might not even be worth the cost of what you're talking about.

Hi, i think we nailed it down to exchaust mainfold bolts it was missing 2, one had a clean surface so it broke recently wich explains the sudden noise. I am waiting for the parts to fix it also got the pcv valve together with radiator. All parts were ~500$.

reason why i am going this road.

To get a new truck is too expensive as cost/month and in nyc with the way they drive it will be junk on outside in no time, as i park it on the street. If it comes down to the engine will rent a garage out and make the swap myself with my brother. The truck has all new parts for the front/back wheels basically new soo it can push through another 7 years i think. I checked the transmission and differentials anf they are in good shape plus i dont carry heavy loads. I got the truck in first place as its the only vehicle that is worth replacing parts for a long run. I dont want a heavy $$/month cost and i already have a degree on electronics so the electronic part is not to big of an issue plus they will make part long after i cannot drive it anymore.

regards,
Tim

Hi Guys,

The parts arrived. we had 2 broken bolts one at the head one inside the engine block on the passenger side the driver side was OK. we used a TIG welder to add material to the one inside the engine to be able to grab it :P after it we changed the exchaust gasket and no more pinging form it just a ping in lower pitch all the other noises are gone.when i turned the truck on for alternate side parking last Monday "7 days without turning it ON" it didn't made any noise at all for the first 2 minutes so it made me thinking again. Then we changed the PCV valve "we had not much time the previous week to change it as we had to go to work"and it was clogged really bad. and the intake of the throttle body was covered in oil. So judging from the PCV condition and noise change i think that the oil pickup screen may be clogged as well and it might explain the pinging from oil starvation on the lifters. As if it was a bend valve the noise would not change after doing the changes. i want to try and engine flush but i am afraid i might size the engine.

Please can anyone advice here. i already ordered the oil pan gasket and oil pickup screen line.

i am thinking of using sea-foam after cleaning the oil pan but still i am afraid i might size the engine. Cloud it be possible to use smaller dosage of sea foam to remove less sludge and do it a couple of times so i don't size the engine or the reverse more sea-foam to dilute it as much as possible in order not to size the engine.

thanks a lot for your help guys, i took you advice on checking it more before ordering the rebuild engine.

regards,

Tim

guys we cleaned the oil pan and there was a lot of sludge, after that we put seafoam to clean the engine and changed the oil. when we started the truck for the first 10 minutes not ticking whatsoever, then slowly the ticking came back in around like 10-15 from very faint to the ticking i had. after that the ticking has been the same. also we changed the pcv valve and when i checked it back it was with oil but no sludge on it.

the question i have is:
1. Can i have a ticking noise if the pcv tubes and valve gaskets are not ok. Also i have oil stain in the air filter.
2. how can i check the vacum of the car and what can be the numbers at idle.

best regards,
TIM
