Radio Volume Knob funky behavior
I have the 2007 Radio with 6 disc changer, no nav. Image attached. When trying to adjust the volume up it's very finicky. As I turn it clockwise, nothing happens and then it will increase in fits & starts, very jumpy. Once it's set, it's fine, it's just jumpy when increasing the volume. I am aware that the volume cannot be increased while the unit is off or while it's in the process of changing from one CD to another, etc. That's not the issue. It's jumpy while a CD or radio or sirius is playing and just trying to turn it up. Any way to test it or clean up any internal contacts on the volume ****?
If it's just a bad radio and I wanted to replace with an aftermarket one, does anyone know if the Sirius tuner is separate or is it integrated into the head unit?
Thanks in advance.

The volume control is failing. The same thing happened on my 07 Grand Caravan. They replaced the radio under warranty. You may be able to open it up and try to spray some good contact cleaner or WD-40 into the volume control and see if it helps. 50/50 shot. I have that same radio in my 08 Ram and am quite happy with tit.
The satellite receiver is separate from the head unit.

My volume **** is acting crazy as well. Turning it down actually turns it up (pretty quickly too) and turning it up turns it down, then up really fast. I just gave up and use the steering wheel control buttons for the volume.
If I replaced the factory unit with an aftermarket one, would I loose the steering wheel control functions? Or are the aftermarket stereos wired to accept those inputs?

My volume **** was acting up similar to what y'all are describing as well. Just finished (last week) installing a new Kenwood head unit and I really love it! The volume **** was an excuse... really wanted to be able to play music from a USB drive and it works great... just a thought.

Hey, no kidding... got a new Kenwood head unit for $145 and free shipping on eBay... and not their cheap model either... eXcelon KDC-X701. Also changed out the speakers to Infinity speakers for about $130 for all four. Hard to beat those kinds of deals. And the head unit does so much more than the stock radio ever could.

My truck does not have radio controls on the steering wheel. But I think my new Kenwood radio supports it... if I remember correctly. You may have to do some research on that.
I actually made the dealer replace the entire head unit under my MaxCare warranty. Then I yanked it out and replaced it with a nice Kenwood and upgraded the entire sound system.
