Hesitation
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L, 200k miles
has a bad hesitation when I take off. Usually only does it when within first few miles of start up. After that it runs fine. Also smokes pretty bad sometimes in start up. Throwing me off cause it’s not an every time thing. Any ideas?
Also, I’m not the most mechanical minded person but I try.

Cable.
but its weird cause i leave my house or whatever and it’ll run good, then I’ll stop at a stop sign and then I try to take off and it’ll do it. Or sometimes it’ll do good when I take off then randomly do it. It only does it once then after it gets going again it’s fine.
Awhile back it hesitated so bad and I was trying to pull out on the road and it finally kicked in, it spun tires and took off real quick. Kinda scared me a little cause I didn’t expect it.

- Blue stinky smoke would be excess fuel from something like a stuck fuel injector on one or more cylinders. Overfilling, flooding. This would clear once revved up, driving. Have you noticed a significant drop in fuel economy?
- White sweetish smoke would be coolant getting into the cylinder from a leaking head gasket or cracked head. A small leak could seam to clear when engine gets to normal temperatures, reappearing at low rpm or cold startup. Have you noticed changes in the coolant level in the reservoir, loosing coolant?
- Dark black/grey smoke would be burning off oil from something like worn out piston rings, leaking intake valve stem seals, a PVC system that is malfunctioning. May clear or seem to burn less when engine gets up to temperature. Have you noticed changes in the oil level, loosing oil?
