05 5.7 dies after starting
Yes I think it does. I wish it would throw a code and I'm suprised it hasn't. I guess I cleared the code when I disconnected the battery but with trying to start it after that I would think a code would pop.
Under a time crunch on a big painting job so I can't focus as much time tomy truck as I want. Tried 3 times to start it today with code reader attached. Same result, started fine and died in 2 seconds. No code. Then on other tries the battery was too weak to start itup. Put it on a charger and tried one more time later. Started then died and battery was almost dead after that.
Sounds to me like your key transponder is not communicating with the receiver in the column. If that’s happening it will allow 3 attempts then shut down completely. Mine does this once in a while, and disconnecting the battery clears it up. But you’ve done that which makes me think your receiver is kaput. Truck won’t have a valid signal to allow it to continue to run after startup, 2 seconds, and it will shut down.

I would imagine only a dealership could help with that. If it started and stopped more than 3 times, it may well be something else, although mine is a 2006, so that could be why mine will only give me 3 tries. I just don’t know.
I had it towed to a shop and talking to them today sounds like you were correct in your diagnosis. The mechanic said the computer was shutting off the injectors 2 seconds after starting and that it was looking like a bad key sensor in the steering column. He is getting a new one delivered in the morning and we'll see if that was the problem. Also said some reprogramming would be in order afterwards?
Yup, these situations pop up once in a while, and I’m the only one who identifies it time and again. I guess it’s because I had it happen to me, and it’s a very distinct symptom. Hopefully it’s not too expensive to repair. Let us know!
