RE: where to buy ignition key, ram Hemi 2003
the trucks you can get a key from anywhere... the black mopar keys are nothing special... now if you break a grey mopar key you can go anywhere if you only want it to work in the door, but you have to go to the dealership for it to work in the ignition.

got a spare on ebay for around $15 including shipping. the dealership wants around $40 or so. If you only have one other key then the dealership will still have to program it and they will charge you for that too. if you have two keys, then you can program it yourself......

I do have a second key I am using now. How do I go about programming it. Are the directions located in the owners manual. I really appreciate everybodys input. I noticed the ignition key on my 2003 dodge is used to turn the ignition as all that force is on the key. Other older vehicles had a metal tab used to turn the ignition on with the key inserted. dave

Check with your local dealer before you go to a lot of trouble programming a key, our dealer will program a key free if it is purchased at our parts department. You may also want to check and see why your ignition is so hard to turn. It should require little effort to turn the ignition.

I did call the dealer to see how much these keys where and here is the price:
$60.00- 1 key
$45.00- to program key
I'll take care of this key business some time soon. I'll search around for the best price and get two keys. Thanks everyone for your help. dave

For those that have two existing keys, here's how to program a third spare key on your own (so you don't have to pay the dealership!!):
insert 1st existing key, turn to On (Run) for 9 sec. and remove, insert 2nd existing key within 15 seconds of removing the first key and turn to On, theft alarm light should illuminate and a single chime should sound, turn key to off, insert new unprogrammed key and turn to On, after ten seconds or so a single cheime should sound, wait 5 seconds and turn off. Third new key will now be programmed!!
