5.7L Hemi engine year identification
Hi all, first time on the Ram forum, been on the Dakota forum before. I just purchased a 2006 Ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.7 hemi. The engine was replaced about 47000 miles ago due to total engine failure (details are vague). I have the receipt from the shop and it states new 5.7L installed at a cost of over 5k. The engine was put in 4/2014. i called the shop to try and find out if the engine was newer (post 09) or older as this makes a difference on several levels. The woman that answered the phone took my info about the truck, but hasn't got back to me. How can I find the engine year production. My internet searches have only turned up internal clues and I don't want to tear the engine down. The VIN will not help since the original engine will show up on it.

Sigh...overcomplicating it. Can't be an eagle (09+) in an 06 because it can't run it and I HIGHLY doubt that shop (would've been significantly more than 5K) did an entire PCM and harness plus programming swap to ATTEMPT to make an eagle hemi run where it should not be. Look at the valve covers; if they're uniformly flat then it's an 03-08 5.7 or 06-10 6.1 head. If the valve covers are rounded (like humps) above and below the coils, then it's an eagle or apache engine, they need the bulges to clear the longer valves.
