See which one has power to it. Ground that one.

Of course, that may just pop a fuse. It's entirely possible that some computer or other sends a signal to the buckle, and expects a return signal....... In that case, simply grounding things out won't make a difference.

 

hey you is correct...the computer supplies voltage on one wire. When not grounded the computer reads a high voltage= belt not buckled. When grded the computer reads a low voltage=belt buckled. grounding both wires will harm nothing; but its the power wire you need to grd. If you don't have power on either wire...either the wire is broken further up the harness or the computer is bad.

 

the guy at dealer said to ground the buckle housing itself not wire. when bolted in may be grounded, that make any sense? Since i'm testing it with the buckle not mounted.

 

Doesn't take much to test that, use a pair of jumper cables and just clamp the neg side of the battery to the part of the buckle that bolts to the seat base.

 

makes no sense to me...only if the seatbelt was case grounded, then would be no need for a second wire. try it I guess but the computer that makes the determination reads the voltage on the wire.

 

Here is the FSM page for an 04, probably the same system... If you know how to use a multimeter, you should be good to go. If you don't, buy and and learn - or pay for someone to go through the steps.

 

And here is the wiring diagram from the same FSM. You'll note black appears tied to ground always, so if its not ground on yours - ground it then buckle the seat belt and see if it stops the chime.
