It's whining about a bad cat. Do you actually still have one? (or more than one?)

Thanks HeyYou for reply.Yes i gathered that the cat was bad, after almost 300,000 km i can see how it's probably worn out.Do you know any fixes to deal with this other than an new cat convertor? Was not aware there could be 2 of them. Will try searching the forum about cat stuff now i guess. That one i can deal with but the other one about the no powertrain dtc or freezeframe data stored in computer c2100 code.also saw circle warnings cat with circle around it then eva then D2s then HTR .All this is new to me and am learning a bit as i go.Thank-You HEYYOU PS do you know where the actual sensor for the cat conv is maybe i can try replacing sensor,or disable maybe?Location of sensor is my first hurdle i think.

There will be an oxygen sensor after the cat. That is how the PCM determines if the cat is working properly. On the older trucks, you could do the 'non-fouler trick'...... Basically, you get a couple sparkplug non-foulers, drill one out, screw it onto the O2 sensor, screw the non-drilled one onto that, and then screw the whole thing into the O2 bung in the exhaust. It fools the sensor into thinking things are working as they should. It works on the older trucks, not sure if it will work on the newer ones...... It could just be a bad sensor too though..... If you could plug in with a scanner, and see what data the sensor is sending to the PCM, that may tell the tale. If the signal doesn't change, bad sensor.

Thanks for the advice. In the mean time my buddy talked me into pouring approx 2 containers of laquer thinner in tank, the type you buy at the hardware store containers. We started the truck and i sat there for 15 min keeping the rpm at 2500.I was very wary of doing this .I did not believe it would even work.I was wrong code is gone now.It has not returned after a hour drive.Wow i was very impressed.Said that they get dirty and even if they are working at 95% they will still throw the code as that is how sensitve the sensor is.The other problem i asked about, the code saying no power train data in comp.He showed me how to do a reset on the comp.We held the odometer button in while turning key 3 times then drained battery by leaving lights on for 5 min.All while holding this button in.Then we unhooked battery cable.waited 1 min reconnected. It worked when we did this all the gauges seemed to go all the way then back to normal.Iknow expeirieced guys are probably chuckling right now.But i thought this was all really cool stuff. No codes and i can't believe it.

Holding in the trip reset button, and turning the key on puts the cluster into test mode. All the gauges will run their full sweep, and all the lights should come on for a bit. It may or may not display some codes in the odometer...... Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the computer.

Hi HeyYou ,yes thanks i understand it now.An update :code came back on the 420 cat.I am going to replace the sensors first to see if this may fix it.On a side note i have an 2005 Daytona .Was able to open part that connects to exhaust, the actual cat converter,on right side was almost welded to exhaust very hard to get apart, but did come apart inside lookes like a melted lump of coal? While on the left it looks like a reg screen.Wonder why no 420 code when the cat got melted. When i replaced the old engine it did have a dead cylinder.Maybe this melted the cat?Is this even a thing?(possible). Will update after i redo the sensors.

Yeah, a dead cylinder can do bad things to the cat.... raw gas gets dumped in, and burns in the cat......

Seriously? Laquor thinner in the gas tank? I have never heard of that. Won't it hurt your engine?

It'll clean the fuel system out rather nicely, however, the engine doesn't run worth beans on it. (unless its flex fuel......) Of course, some parts of the fuel system may not care for it...... tends to eat the insulation off the windings in the injectors, and they short, and stop working. But, that was back in the 'old' days.... they may be a little more friendly with it today.
