Default headlight switch with fog lamp feature

This 04 2500 truck didn't come with fogs, but I bought a set of jyard foglights with harness since the truck did ship with the harness to the bumper. I also bought a replacement headlight switch + fog lamp from AMParts, only $28. Assembled and wwitched it on and both fogs lit up. yay!

But there is no backlit indicator on the switch when I pull the **** out. Isn't it supposed to light up in the lower left corner? Been a while since my 04 1500, can't remember those details.

Thanks!

Grabbed a used one today, no illumination - so I'm assuming they don't light up when you turn on the fogs... 2nd gen does. Weird.

Supposed to, but it may be because yours was not a factory install

Could be, but they do function like you'd expect - although no feedback illumination in the switch.

Seeing is believing Thanks!

So I contacted am-autoparts via their chat yesterday afternoon. I asked if their switch had an ON indicator in the lower left that lights up when you pull on the fog lights. They replied "yes". Then I said I have one of their switches and its not lighting up, is there a way to test the switch. They then replied that their switches don't light up. I didn't bother to highlight the 180 degree turn in answer for him, I just laughed and closed the chat window...

I think I'll have to look at the wiring diagram to figure out how to test the switch and see if its the switch or the truck side of the circuit.

I wonder if one of the modules needs to be clued in that you now have fogs, so it will turn on that indicator.......

In a CAN bus vehicle it would, in a PCI bus vehicle there has to be a signal wire going somewhere to illuminate it. Without looking at a wiring diagram, if it's anything like a similar year Liberty, adding the factory fog light add on kit routes a wire up to the clockspring, this then sends the signal from the multi-function switch to the BCM to tell it to light up the dash indicator.

I doubled checked that the fogs went out when high beams come on, and they do go out.

Looking at the FSM didn't really help me much, I know there are more than a couple pins on the back of that switch...
