new member needing extreme help. CV axle too short
Hello all!... so here it is I bought a 2006 dodge ram 1500 4.7 l v8. I bought used and the previous owner had put a lift kit and a lot of after market stuff on her. so I have had her for a year now but never drove her because of a noise I was hearing after the winter past I started to really look and noticed the cv axle boot on drivers side was ripped so I say to myself o.k bite the bullet replace the whole axle well its in a shop and low and behold both axles are gone the mechanic got the both axles off then we found out the 4wheel drive actuators were gone so we ordered them so the mechanic goes to start putting it all together and we find out that the cv joint boot kits I bought are about 2" too short to fit!! and the bad news is all the parts the prior owner used have no markings left on them so we cant figure out what cv joint kits this person used. I personal do not know much about this I am just hearing and seeing what I am being told but I did see the new kit I bought (and when I say this I mean the cv axle from wheel to gears inside ) and the 1 I bought is about 2 " shorter so I have been searching all car stores looking for an "extended cv joint boot kit but can not find anything I obviously bought the correct 1 for my truck IF IT HAD STOCK STUFF ON IT BUT IT DOESNT!!) I AM PRAYING SOMEONE HERE CAN HELP ME AND POINT ME TO WHERE TO GO...…..HELP PLEASE!!!

It's actually easier to replace the entire axle, than just changing a boot. Or am I reading that wrong?
There are a couple companies that do custom axles, generally sold with their lift kits, but, they are by no means cheap...... For the most part, the lift kits just use the stock axles. How much of a lift does your truck have? Is the mechanic sure he got the right parts for your truck? (just because the part number on the box is correct, does not necessarily imply the part IN the box is correct......)

hello, and thanks for the reply.so yes I bought the stock axle the whole thing from rotor to 4w.d actuator....im by no means mechanically inclined but a mechanic has the truck the stock axle was 2" too short we also called dodge and have them looking for 1 that will fit(well actually 2 we are replacing both) also called a local lift place suppose to be best around he also told me 95% of the time its a stock axle but they are just too short so im going to have to bring it to them and have them see what they can do. but any suggestions on where I can purchase a longer cv joint axle would be great and appreciated much!! there are no markings on any of these parts so very hard to figure out what someone else did

Upload the pic to someplace like photobucket, or imageshack. Then just link to it here. (the button with the mountains, right next to the smiley face.)
