He's talking about the kind youd see on some rigged out Jeeps for the intake so it can go in deeper water. Dunno if anyone has put one on a Ram. I'd imagine you could check out a Jeep supplier, get one, and modify it to a Ram. Have to cut a whole in the side of your truck though.....

Gotta watch those deep crossings. Gotta love where the engineers put the intake on it.

Avanti, a snorkel is nothing more than an intake that is placed higher up so to not ingest water. As mentioned, you see them on many hard core Jeeps and I've also seen them on military Hummers. It is usually sealed pretty good and costs you some HP, but at those speeds, you'll never notice.

Let's see if I can find a picture....snorkel company pics

Hopefully that will help a little with the explaination.

Avanti, I think they make those in aluminized stainless as well, for the more discriminating customer.LOL!!!

thanks for the help, i'm willing to lose a little hp for the added securty of knowing that water hopefully won't end up it the intake. i don't plan on getting into anything really deep but i would rather be prepared just in case something happened out on the trail.

qc4x403laramiehemi, I know this is a little off the subject but you have the same truck as mine with the same type and size tire I'm going to buy. How do you like the tires? And I'd really apprieciate it if you could post a pic. of your truck. Thanks.

no prob, i love the tires. i haven't found anything it couldn't handle so far, but then again, i haven't gotten into some really sticky stuff yet just mostly sand and some sandy muddy water mix, and just a little bit of clay. i'll post some pics for you when i get my truck back. it is currently in the shop to get a new motor. it sucked in water and slung 2 rods, and possibly more damage, but i'll find out soon i guess.

I'm sorry to hear that you sucked water in your motor, that's one thing DC needs to address, and thats putting the air intake up higher. I think there just to low on a 4x4. I can see why you want a snorkel. I'll be looking forward to your pics. Thanks and good luck!!!!
