Default Shimmy in the steering wheel at 60+ mph

Hello I have a 2009 dodge 2500 4x4. So the front end parts, tie rods ball joints etc are fairly new. Everything else feels tight. So I was running a 285/70/17 on stock wheels up until a week and a half ago and I chanced to some 20x12 -44 with some 33s they came pre mounted and balanced. They ride great around town but as soon as I get on the highway I get a shake in the wheel. It’s not violent but it’s definitely there. Stumped on what’s causing it. The wheels and tires are brand new

+1 especially if it happened after a tire swap. some shops have crappy balancers that don't handle heavy, big wheels assemblies well
Imo for big stuff...find a shop that has a hunter roadforce balancer. $10 000 balancer but its flawless.

I was wondering about the balance, I had heard on like 35s and larger it can be difficult. I’m gonna take it to the shop tomorrow to see bout the balance and also gonna have them re align it

get them roadforce balanced. a tire with radial tire variation will balance out on a regular machine but shimmey at speed. only a roadforce balancer will measure and detect rtv. if more than 35lbs rtv..its a tire build defect...replace tire.

ha ha! You’ve obviously never experienced death wobble! A shimmy is like swatting at a mosquito, death wobble is like being thrown into the cage with Conor McGregor.... You’re gonna lose some teeth!

I went and had my tires rebalanced, they turned out to be way off balance. Apparently the shop that sent them to me had a crappy machine. There is one tire in the rear that they couldn’t get perfect so I will probably just end up replacing that one since these tires are almost new. Definitely not going to buy amp tires again. The good news is the shimmy is gone though
