My ignition tumbler will not turn to on position. I've bought new key and ignition switch. How do I get the tumbler out???
Generally, you have to remove the steering wheel but I've seen some columns you didn't have to. Before you tear into it, did you shut the truck off with the steering wheel turned a bit? There is a sprag in there that locks the column. Try rocking the steering wheel while turning the key. If the steering has it in a bind, the sprag will bind and not release. If the steering is pulling back, that could be the problem.
Spay some WD40 in the ignition and tap the key while the key is in the ignition and turn. You would need to remove the tumbler barrel when turning the key. There is a lock pin you would need to push to remove the barrel. You will need to remove the covers around the steering column. To get to the lock.
If it turns out you do need to replace the lock cylinder, take it to a locksmith and have the cylinder rekeyed to fit your old key. That way you don't have to remember which of two keys will fit the doors and which the ignition.
Went to dodge and bought a new key. The barrel wont turn at all. Lost the old key at work. Just need to figure out how to get the tumbler out. Its locked totally. I'm gonna try a couple things when I get off this afternoon.

Will the new key unlock the doors? Have your new cylinder rekeyed to match that key. Was the old lock cylinder giving you trouble? A new key that unlocks the doors, some lubricant (3in1 oil has a dandy penetrating lube available) and jiggle the new key in the lock and try to move it. As a worst case scenario, you may have to get a locksmith to pick the lock to remove it. You can try drilling the holding pin. If you can get it out of the way, the lock barrel will come out.
