TORSION BAR POPPING
2004 BLACK RAM 1500 QUAD 4X4- I'M HAVING A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION, EVERY TIME I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAY ITS THE FRONT TORSION BARS. THEY ADJUST AND LUBE , THE NOISE COMES BACK ABOUT EVERY 3 MONTHS. WHATS UP WITH THIS ??? I KNOW 4 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TRUCK AND THEY DONT HAVE THE PROBLEM. I DONT WANT TO BE OUT OF WARRANTY AND TOLD THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED, SHOULD I PRESS THE DEALER FOR BETTER EXPLANATION OR REPLACEMENT?? ANY ADVISE WOULD BE HELPFUL...
A torsion bar is a very simple mechanical component. Would could possibly be popping? I don't think this is a correct diagnosis. You should ask exactly what is popping. Have them get under there and point to the parts and explain this to you. Are you sure it's not a universal joint binding and popping?
When I put my truck in reverse and back up, thats when I hear a pop noise, like something is binding up then pops. It doesnt happen when I go forward. I have taken it into the Dodge dealer 4 times now, and they say that the torsion bars keep moving , causing them to bind up and pop, they say that they re-adjust them. It seems to be okay for about 3 months and then it starts popping again. My truck is in the Dodge shop today, so we will see what they say again. I will take your advise if they tell me the same thing again. I have lots of friends with the same truck and they dont have this problem. This problem started at 3000 miles and I have about 12000 miles on it now. Thanks for your suggestions...
Lst us know what they come back with. I'm with HemiBuell--that doesn't sound right for torsion bars, especially just when backing up. If they stick with that, I'd have them show you exactly why. Lubing the bars every 3 mos. shouldn't be the fix.

I have a popping in my front end when I turn into my drive way on a dip and also when I load one side while turning then turn the opposite way. They seem to think that it is the sway bar. Everything is tight, so I don't know. When I lube the sway bar bushings it goes away for a few days, but of course it doesn't do it constantly so the dealership finds nothing as well.
Do they correlate, probably not, but just a suggestion to check your sway bar mounting points and bushings.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.. Just wanted to update you on what happened at the dealership. The service advisor said they drove the truck all over and couldn't get it to pop, 1st of all if they had listened to me when I said it only does it when you back up and turn, they wouldnt have had to drive it "all over the place", 2nd if they had looked at the prior service records they could see the tech's notes on prior repairs. I think that they must have lubed everything in the front-end because my husband said there was fresh grease everywhere and I haven't heard the popping noise all week-end. So we will wait and see if it comes back.. Thanks to all that responded!!! Hope you all have a safe New Year... BLKHEMI4X4
