2005 Ram 1500
Hello,
I am new to this thread and have some questions. I have a 2005 RAM 1500 with the 4.7L 4x4. It now has 89,000 miles on it. I bought it about 4 years ago with 58000 miles on it. It is the base model ST quad cab automatic rocking its cassette player. LOL
I am **** about doing its maintenance, all Val. full synthetic oil changes with Wix filters at 5K miles, new serpentine belt, new spark plugs every 30k, differential oils changed, new brakes and rotors ect just as PMCS (preventive maintenance and checks and services). I also keep a log of everything that is done to the truck.
Here are my questions
1 How many miles should this 4.7 last me if it is maintained properly
2. Should I change trans filter and fluid
3. Are there any issues with this truck I should keep an eye out for
Thank You

The 4.7 can take a hell of a beating and continue to run well if you change all the fluids at the correct time frames. I don't think it would hurt to change the trans fluid and trans filter, but people do argue that if it's the original trans fluid then it may not be worth changing. If the trans fluid doesn't look all too bad then go right ahead and change it. Just please change the oil often, as that can be the death of these engines.
Sky's the limit.
Absolutely! Drop the pan and change the filter/s. If you don't have a drain plug, install one in the pan then drain and fill every 25K.
Temporary cold start clatter means your lifters are going bad. Mine eventually threw a rocker back in the spring. Keep an eye on coolant level. Head gasket leaks can form if you're not using Mopar (or other silicated coolant).
Who???

210,000 on my 05 4.7 original motor and trans never been apart and haven’t been real nice to it either. Ive just done the regular maintenance to the engine and have only changed the trans fluid once. Still going strong
Thanks guys,
It seems like so far I am doing everything about right. Plan on putting on a new transmission pan with drain plug so that will be easier and replacing the filters in her. Also, my best friend who is an excellent body man is going to fix the bed rot that is starting around the wheel wells and touch up some little dings and scratches on her. Since my dad retired from Valvoline I use all of their products and WIX filters so everything is a quality product.
I am hoping that she runs me a long time especially since she has such low miles on her now.
