Default Remote key for 05 dodge ram 2500

I currently have an 05 dodge ram that has a key with a phob on it (picture 1) I would like to switch it to a key that has the buttons already on it (picture 2) because I don't want to have a big clunky phob. Does anyone know if this is posable. I have been reading about sentry keys and transporters and it's really just making me more confused haha

The electronics are different. I tried to do this, but because the elex weren't compatible I went with with is this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-1-Buttons...p/293023686711
You just swap your fob guts in and get the folding key cut.

I found this one the web...

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Remote Programming

Transponder Vehicles:

Transmitter for the remote key combo is programmed during the Key Programming procedure. Click on the Key Programming for your vehicle to access programming instructions.

NON-Transponder Vehicles:

This programming procedure requires you to already have at least 1 working original remote transmitter. (All buttons must be functional). If you do not have any remote transmitters you must get this new one programmed by a qualified locksmith or dealership.

Obtain all remote transmitters for this vehicle. Any existing keys/remote transmitters not used during programming will become inoperative so make sure to reprogram them during procedure describe below. Sit in vehicle with all doors closed and the driver’s seat-belt on. Make sure no one else is in the vehicle.

1. Put key in ignition and turn ignition switch to ON position (as far as you can turn key without cranking engine).

2. Using a programmed key/remote transmitter perform the following:
  • Press and hold UNLOCK button.
  • After holding the UNLOCK button for a at least 4 seconds, continue holding the UNLOCK button and also press PANIC button within 6 seconds.
  • Ensure acoustic signal is emitted indicating programming mode active.
  • Release both buttons.
3. Within 60 seconds carry out the following procedure for each remaining key/remote transmitter:
  • On the unprogrammed remote, press both the LOCK and UNLOCK button at the same time for 2 seconds then release both buttons.
  • Ensure acoustic signal is emitted
  • Within 4 seconds press and release the UNLOCK button.
  • Ensure acoustic signal is emitted
4. Repeat step 3 now for each remaining key/remote transmitters including working remotes.

5. Switch ignition to OFF position or wait 60 seconds to exit programming mode.

6. Programming is now complete. Test all remotes to ensure proper programming.

Please note: a maximum 6 key remote transmitters can be programmed

Here's another set of instructions - why they are different???

How to Program a 2006 Dodge Ram Pickup Ignition Transponder Chip Key

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

Note: You must have two valid keys to add a new key to the system. If you do not have two working keys you will have to have a locksmith program a key for you.
1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key.

2. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the second key.

3. Insert the new key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position.within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing. To indicate that programming is complete, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on again for seconds and then turn off.

The new key is now programmed.
The Remote Keyless Entry transmitter will also be programmed during this procedure.Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys.

Transponder vs non-transponder. Again, nothing to do with original subject matter.

OP, something to consider.

I believe your gray key has a transponder chip in it. That would also need to be dug out and swapped over to the ebay unit, unless you're going to throw security to the wind and tape it to your steering column, somewhere. Make sure ebay key has a place for that.

Personally, I think the size of that ebay unit makes it a downgrade from what you already have.

Is that key gray? I thought it was black. If so, then yes it has a chip in it. What alot of people do is stash the key somewhere close (even under the dash, one guy I talked to put it in the column lol) so that SKIM still gets a signal. I imagine trying to separate the chip from the key head would probably damage it. I have a black key so I don't have this problem.

Well comparing the black fob next to it, sure looks gray to my old eyes. Not sure if that's what OP actually has through.
