Ok so I’ve got this 04 ram 1500 quad cab 4x2 with a 4.7 and a auto
the truck has been sitting for about 10 years.. was the old family truck.
i have no spark out of any coil packs, no injector power either.. also my tach does not show the engine rotating whatsoever.
gauges will only sweep one time when battery is re connected, and will only sweep 1/3 of the cluster.
I have done the onboard instrument cluster test and the only c-codes I have is Ab-00.
I have also checked fuse box and pcb board inside and all looked well.
Fuel pump is shot.. just ordered one. New crank sensor.
what steps should I take to find out why I have no spark or no tach
the two issues have to be related. Atleast I would assume.
also the PRNDL has no gear selected. There is no box around any gear.
when I reset engine codes the battery gauge will work momentarily, then drop back down to 0.
truck will crank strong though.
Sounds like at least part of your problem is electrical.
For the battery; what voltage do you read at rest? What does voltage drop to when starter is engaged?
Check your grounds; grounding points should be clean and grounding cable should be flexible.
Some good videos on checking battery connections and voltage drops.
A probe-type meter is very good for checking fuse continuity, and, grounds inside the cabin.
Ok so the truck originally got parked cause my dad wrecked it out, got hit right on the cab corner of passenger side. After it got hit he drove it 62 miles to our farm and parked it.
the crank sensor is a duralast. And I’m not getting any codes for crank sensor.
I checked for initial power to coil packs with key on, got power for about 1.5 seconds until asd relay clicked.
then no power whatsoever. Even when cranking.
im attaching a picture of the truck just because I’m amazed that it survived.
to this day he won’t tell me what he hit, or what hit him.
Is the gas in the tank or fuel lines 10 years old? How about the lubricants and fluids?
Those trucks are being parted out all the time on craigslist. You can fix that.
My guess is animal impact. It's got that body outline look to it.
Don't use the spectra pump, you will be changing it again within the year. Get a delphi, or denso pump.
Duralast crank sensor is a waste of money as well. Genuine mopar only please. The aftermarket fellers just don't work all that well in these trucks. The fact that you aren't seeing power at the coils/injectors while cranking suggests the PCM isn't seeing the engine turning......
Ok good to know, will be ordering a Delphi fuel pump next for a backup.
assuming that the crank position sensor is working for now,
would camshaft position sensors affect the pcm not detecting movement?
ive been getting a random camshaft position sensor code for bank a pop up at random times.
Also.. I can’t find any Information about the Ab code except for, TCM messages not received.
Don't worry about the cluster codes, they have never been all that meaningful......
I think assuming the crank sensor is working, is a mistake. If the PCM saw the engine turning, (crank sensor....) it would trip the ASD relay again, and you would see power at the coils/injectors while cranking.
