Default Leaf spring eye bolts eye bolts stripped.

2005 ram 1500 4x4 slt 5.7 hemi. 89k miles.

Forward and rear lower eye bolts and nuts stripped but accessible and removable.
Is there a trick too replacing both eye bolts and nuts without
lifting and suspending/sagging rear axle and diff. Or loosening the torqued U-Bolts
that have less than 30 miles .

The expert technical advisor sent me the wrong shackles..
finally recieved right Eqip. But no replacent eyebolts and nuts
and it wasn't even a suggestion from the expert advisor.
Let's just say after his statement "I'm not trying too insult your intelegence",
Looking up my VIN. " Go take more pics for me. " measure width of bushing
getting loud at me because i gave the wrong measure.
I felt belittled, humiliated, condecended , and i just gave that guy 700 bux.
He didn't want too eat the cost of correct parts and shipping. Admit to
the mistake too his boss. This is why I'm having too replace my
hardware. ITS JUST EDUCATION .
ONWARDS...
So after doing both sides of leafsprings twice
Eyebolts and steele lock nut need too be replaced
again.

2nd Q?
Whats the goto supermarket of nuts bolts, eye bolts, fasteners, and such ?
For hard too find bolts?

Mv invoice says the bolts are 9/16 4.5 ". Invoice says nothing about the
Thread Count/ Pitch/ Fine/ Course on these bolts

The steele locking nut is a 9/16 Inch 12 .
On inovice.

What kind of hardware/ nut bolt washer stack should I use
too eliminate the steele lock nuts.
with fresh 9/16 4.5 inch bolts

Should I use course 12 TPI . 18 TPI fine ?
Nuts and Bolts

What does the 12 pertain too I'm assumeing its thread's per inch? TPI

Thanks fellas...

You should get a grade 8 bolt with a locking nut.
Companies that manufacture leaf springs will also sell the bolts. Take a look at Husky Spring part number SHB91645. The torque setting on these is not high, I think 40 ftlbs or so.

And should I get new u bolts as well at this point. 40 miles on them but been torqued .

If you suspend the axle, then all the weight will be hanging on those bolts..... Finding the 'happy spot' where there isn't any tension on the bolts is fun, but doable.

So maybe a bit of upward pressure on either side of the axle ?

What about the u bolts they been in and out a few times now? Should I get new ones now ?
Or are they good to go still ? I just bought them ?

I would jack the truck up by the frame, get the axle almost off the ground. Put a jack under the pig, and once you have the bolts loose, experiment with lifting/lowering the axle to get the bolts out.

I think a lotta folks recommend replacing u-bolts if you take them off..... Not sure if that still applies to new ones though..... I have re-used them in the past, with no ill effect.

That's what we are here for.

It's a fun job...... easier if you have someone to help, even if it's just a tool monkey. (that's what kids/grandkids are for. )
