Default Engine swap from 05 Durango 5.7 into 03 Ram 1500 4.7

Hey I have a 05 Durango with a good 5.7 bad body. Im bought o 03 Quad cab Ram 1500 with a bad 4.7. Im wanting to swap engine and transmission from the Durango to the 1500. What all will I need off the Durango to swap int the 1500. Step by step if there that is possible. Thank you so very much this is my daily driver so I need it back on the road ASAP. I've done a engine swap when I was 17 but that was 23 years ago on a 79 Chevy short wide

Welcome to DF!

Things have gotten a bit more complex in the last 20 years or so. Moving this to third gen Ram section for ya.

Here we go again lol.....
Ok, so Ram and Durango may share parts those years BUT they are very different platforms. First, 4.7 and 5.7 use the same trans. You can't use anything from your Durango because it is a CAN bus platform and your 03 Ram is not; CAN and PCI bus aren't compatible. To even try to make this work you would need to get the harness, PCM, pedal etc from a 2003 to 2005 Ram with the 5.7. Then you could use the engine.

There are harness and PCM differences. Find a 1500 harness if you can or talk to Hotwireauto.com about which harness can be altered to adapt it.

Default Swap

So I need the harness out of a 2005 Ram1500 that had a 5.7? Right? But then what about the throttle pedal?

Yes, you'll need the APPS pedal assembly.

Hey it seems you know what your talking about, so I just blew my motor on my 05 1500 5.7, and I have a Durango in the back that’s a 06 with a 5.7… ik the Durango motor has the mds and 16 plugs, which my ram does not have. Anyway I could make this work? Thanks!!

SMH....
Yes, the Ram 5.7 has 16 plugs as well, which tells me you've NEVER changed them (those type of maintenance habits might explain why you just blew an engine....). It just has single coils with wires instead of dual coils (if you want to keep the dual cois, adapter pigtails are available). Regardless, you can drop it in, same basic engine. The default mechanical position for MDS is off. You may need to use 2005 sensors for harness and CAN/PCI variations but so long as you leave everything intact (DON'T pull the solenoids) it will plug and play and function just fine.
