Well I suppose its just like what Kenny Roger's sang about.
Winning is about knowing when too fold*em.
Old Lower ball joints win. I loose. But not really.
I do know now what "Shade Tree Mechanican".
is all about. For real doh.

Those CV Axle just won't move I mean not even a MM.
So they tie into the hub right smack over the BJ..

I'm gonna let a shop handle it.
Before something goes super wrong.

So whats a fair price too have a shop do my lower
Ball Joints.
2005 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 SLT SB.

And is it out bounds too bring in my own new parts granted they fit. And have that discussion
with shop ahead of time.

Secondly I'm thinking MOOG is the top contender.
Recommendations for the serviceable/greaseable .
Whats everybody liking.

Whether you can bring in your own parts or not, depends on the shop. Some will let you, others want to sell you the parts. (they make money on parts too.....)

You are probably looking at 4 to 6 hours of labor.... at whatever rate the shop charges. And if things 'go wrong', there will be additional charges as well......

You are so close. Have you tried a hub puller? The kind that fits over your lug studs?

Hey man thanks for the encouragement. I think I'll give the hub puller a go next week. Maybe.
but for now I'm gonna step away from it. I'm pretty beat up. Knees are killing me.
I have tie rods and uppers control arm to do today on passenger side.. and get me a jump start.

I'm not in a position that I can leave truck apart and up on jack stands over nite.
I have to do my work put everything back together go park and
go through the whole routine of setting up jack stands lifting tires
and brake calipers off and back on after either success or failure..
at days end.. In uneven chuck holed dirt patch.

But I'll try one more time next week.
Thankyo..

I didn't know you were putting it all back together every day. Good luck on this and let us know if you need any help.

Yeah less than desirable working conditions on all counts.
no big deal really. I look at it like education and self reliance.
I have inner tie rod upper control arm to do on my passenger
side. Then I have too make a decision on my LWRBJs try
One last time next week. Or find the local shop.
thanks fellas.
I'll be back...

Update for everybody.

My new mechanic im working with . Tells me
The reason I could not seperate the knuckle from the axle shaft. Is because the splines siezed to the wheel bearing. On the driver side.
which he believes was caused by gas pedal and 4x4 mode or sharp turns while in 4x4 engagement
Bearing and axle need replacing.. I asked for him too keep old parts for me.

I don't have posi so hopefully its just one side thats needing repair.
im still below 1k for repairs and new lower ball joints.

I don't feel like I'm being mislead at all.. because you all have been following this thread and know I gave it hell..
so yell pray for me that its just one side. He called but wasn't sure about other side he hasn't gotten too
Try..

Stay tuned.

More likely it's just the axle and bearing have been together for so long, they have become one. Corrosion, time, and use will make that happen.

So the axle had to be cut through with cutting torches i would imagine he used oxi/acetylene i wasn't there.
butter axle and bearing were siezed together thru and thru. Use and age.
