Default Transmission Extension

Just wondering if the extension can be replaced without removing the trans? Long story short, I broke a chunk off right at the rear seal.

what kind of truck do you have?
Are you sure the tranny output shaft is good?

It's an '04 Ram 1500 SLT w/ Hemi Sport package. I had a rear u-joint and yolk break about a month ago, Replaced both and everything was fine, no vibrations. was driving it, started vibrating, and front u-joint broke. but when it did, it snapped the back also, so I lost the whole driveshaft. I ordered and replaced whole drive shaft. I noticed a vibration, but not at lower speeds only around 65. I wasn't sure if I bent a rim when the driveshaft was ejected out the back. Had them balanced and still vibrated. Drove to work and noticed a small puddle of tranny fluid, so I crawled underneath. That's when I saw this.

I'm thinking I can replace the extension without dropping the tranny, but not sure.

Looks like there is a mount on there as well, so, have to support the trans, and remove that as well. If the extension housing just bolts to the back of the trans, should be able to change it in the truck.

Though, I am curious, how that managed to break there..... would be a bummer to replace it, only to have it break again.

We won't know if losing the u-joint needle bearings happened before or after the drive shaft departed.
What mods are you running? 4.56 gears?

FSM says to coat mating surfaces with Mopar silicone sealant then fasten to the tranny. Looks like no special install procedures or tools needed.
