Default Came back, and something revealed

Well, of course it came back. Sputtering, backfiring, etc But I found a short. At the trans harness from the neutral safety switch. Still don't really see how that adds up, but it's shorting and creating something. Moved wires and engine clearly reacted. Thoughts on that? Going to study the wiring diagrams, and start digging...

Default Splice 150

Going to dig into splice 150 tomorrow. Moving the harness at the trans is getting an engine reaction only when the area of s150 is disturbed.

Is it the connector itself? If so, just replace it.

Which connector do you mean? Not the neutral safety switch. You mean connector at 150 splice? Going to look shortly. Got too dark last night.

Pardon my ignorance, I guess you mean the actual s150 splice? I guess it's a connector of some sort? I can't even see it yet, need to dig deeper. Again pardon me, I've never touched splices and electrical is certainly not a strong point! What does this thing look like? Has anybody dealt with this on here? Pics? Can't see any online...

I'm actually guessing it was the summer heat wave that this stems from. It gradually started after that. And it was HOT under there. So much so, I changed my thermostat for the summer.

I was thinking the connector at the NSS. (trans range sensor, whatever. ) Checking the splice is a good idea as well. Might not hurt to remove the krinkle tubing from that part of the harness, and check the wires from end to end. (it's a pain though.) No idea what the splice is going to look like, I've never had to mess with one.

Yes, agreed. I snipped all the wires at the NSS harness earlier, to rule out the harness being defective. It's really hard to tell where the short is from pulling on the wiring. I thought it was clear, but it's not consistent. Digging into it this am. Will pull off the casing/loom.

Oh my buddy was a Dodge mechanic, he said a splice could be a metal ring, with multiple wires pinched and soldered.

Default Resolved!

Well, sorry about the delay, but I think I can confirm at this point, that I've resolved the problem. I just drove 500 miles with no issues. Splice 150, which includes the map sensor, located at the back of the engine as per the wiring diagrams, was shorting out on the engine block intermittently. The loom/casing was quite brittle, and the little ball of solder at the splice was oriented towards the engine and exposed through the casing. So there you go, finally. 4 months, five shops, missed work, $$$... I love these trucks!

Thanks again for the support. I've got other questions for new threads, re cat delete, and gvwr.

Cheers!
