Default Transmission problems.

Hello gang, I have a 2005 1500 SLT with a 4.7 here is my dilemma? I bought the truck with 105,000 about 2 years ago now I have about 111,000. The check engine light has been on since I bought it with the codes. Now they tell me it's the torque converter, however, I have no problems shifting or no high RPMs truck runs great even pulls my boat with no problems. Before I go and get a rebuilt transmission I was wondering if it could be the Shift pack solenoid in the transmission and before I go and waste 300 to 400 bucks, I wanted to know if you guys think it's worth it or should I just go ahead and rebuild the transmission? Thank you.

I seem to recall something about the torque converters in some of the third gen trucks being problematic...... But, not 100% on that.

Essentially, what that is telling you is that the RPM doesn't change enough to keep the PCM (TCM?) happy when it commands the torque converter clutch on. Even when it engages, its generally only like a 200 RPM drop, so, not necessarily something you would notice wasn't working, unless you were really paying attention. (essentially, your TCC either isn't engaging at all, or is slipping.) You *might* be able to get away with just replacing the torque converter...... but, that's not a sure thing. (are you familiar with the 50/50/90 rule?) Of course, if the TCC has failed, it likely has distributed a bunch of crap throughout the trans..... so, torque converter swap might just be a stop-gap measure, and you will find yourself with a dead trans at some future date. (maybe next week, maybe in a couple years. It's a crap shoot.)

If you are going to have to drop the trans anyway, and you have the money, I would lean heavily toward a complete rebuild, with a new converter and solenoid pack.

Thank you for your advice and I am not familiar with that rule. I did change the transmission fluid and filters a couple of times already with no change. I was just surprised with not that much mileage it would have a problem with the transmission.

If there is a 50/50 chance of making the right move, there is a 90% chance you will pick the wrong one.

I recommend to replace the torque converter and front pump assy. But with the mileage on the vehicle. I would also do a clutch and seal kit too. Or a reman unit. Don't get one from a pick and pull.

What do you guys think of this place? This is the quote they gave me? They will find a garage for me to install it and they will charge about 500.00. I would do it but I'm not as young as I once was.

Price doesn't look too bad, comparing it to other vendors.

Are there any local transmission shops nearby? Might call 'em, and get a quote to have them rebuild yours as well.

Default P0706 Code.......2005 1500 5.7 4x4 Laramie

Hey guys, hope it's ok to bum off this thread then making a whole new one...I'm getting the P0706 code. I have an Autel 200 Bluetooth code reader so I can talk to different computers if the truck. Here's what happened. I was driving home parking around my house, and wanted to just move the truck over a little bit more then where it was, out the truck in reverse again, and it just shut off. Never turned on again..,.if i try, it selects all the gears....i can clar the code, you hear a little relay of some sort click off, and it shows park. I can shift through the gears, and it selects each one correctly....and the PCM sees all correct C1-C5 combinations, at lease according to the Autel,...but the second I try to start it.,.....code comes back, and all gears are selected again......i cleaned the connector with the electronics spray, no oil seems to be around there really, connector looked bone dry the first time I took it out..where do I look next?? Any help is much appreciated.....

I'm guessing thats the last resort......i just don't see why it would work without attempting to start.....I've heard somewhere about the trans sharing a ground with the starter??? I've looked and don't seem to find how that can correlate.....
