ANYBODY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 05093166AA and the 05093166AB? did they make changes to the later?

Usually that just means they made some minor change to the part. Might have been forced by supply chain changes, or minor engineering update. In general the component should be a direct fit.

I agree, but if it isn't significant i can save money and buy the AA version.

It is the revision number. What actually changed is anyones guess. The AA will work perfectly for you.

Just the evolution of the part number. Might have changed manufacturer, or a small material change. Very rarely is it not completely interchangeable.

I ask because the AA must be susceptible to cracking (assuming it was the original part number) and whether or not the AB was modified to reduce cracking.

I ordered one out of McKinney Texas dodge $450. my local dealer wanted $750. we will see what we get this time,

Ok, interesting problem, did a quick search... found this precision video (below). Host implies the case is available aftermarket. Looks like an easy swap over into a new case, and the snap ring groove seems to be a problem (some kind of aftermarket kit to extend the life).
