Hooked the battery up backwards…
long story short- hooked battery up backwards.Burnt fusible link. replaced w/ same gauge cable, solder, heat shrink, electrical tape, truck starts. Stuck in limp mode. Took it to trans shop and they said everything in regards to the trans is fine. Don’t know what to do. Also as far as I can tell I have power everywhere but only fuses that light up are the horn fuse and the relays.
Yep, I hooked the battery up backwards. I woke up to go to work and the truck wouldn’t start. Jumped it real quick with my wife's jeep and went to work. Lunchtime came around and checked the truck and it was dead again. Got a jump from a coworker after and drove it home.
I took my wife’s vehicle up to a orielly’s along with the battery to get it tested and it had low voltage so I left it to charge Around 5pm and would pick it up around 8pm before they closed. When I went back the battery voltage hadn’t went up much so I decided to get a new battery. When I arrived home i put the battery in matching the red seal on the battery terminal with the red connector and went to put the ground on and it sparked a tad bit and I don’t know what made me think “ let’s push it on a little more” but I did. And a few seconds later it started smoking behind the TIPM and shortly after a small fire. Of course I panicked and before i could put it out it went out itself. I gave up for the night…
In the morning I attempted to put the battery on correctly but the connectors wouldn’t reach so I took it back to orielly's and the guy told me she sold me the wrong battery.. I should have known but I didn’t. He gave me the correct battery and I went home to figure out what burned and I couldn’t spot it so I installed the battery and the truck started up. I was worried but I couldn’t miss work so I drove it. Made it in fine but on my way home truck gave out. Every dash light cut on and I clunked to the side of the road.
Got a tow back to my house and after looking it over more closely I realized the fusiable link caught fire and had burnt up about 8” or so of the cable. So I replaced it with the same gauged copper cable and soldered, heat shrunk, and electrical taped it. Initially the truck didn’t start up but I jumped it and every since it starts right up no issue. Except its in limp mode and the only fuses that light up when I test it are the horn fuses and i believe a wiper fuse. I asked a trans shop that recently replaced the trans in it to check and see if something was “tripping” it into safe mode because of what happened but they said everything tested out fine and no codes. I feel like i’m at a dead end here and just reaching out for some direction.
Thank you and sorry for the loooong read..

D.Thom10,
I would start checking all electrical fuses that you can with a volt meter and see if hooking up the battery backwards burned them all. Yes, Fuseable link burned but you just don't know what else could have burned. Or, you may want to take it to a shop and have them run a full battery of test, no pun there. electrical issues are the hardest thing to diagnosis...

I got a multimeter and after basically replacing every fuses in the tipm. Most all fuses read 14ish volts along with the battery.I did some research but i’m not quiet sure if i’m using it right. Its set to DCV. The truck was not in limp mode this morning made it to work fine. After work it was again in limp mode. I tried the “ON and OFF” trick to get it out of limp mode, removing the key for 30 seconds, unplugging the negative connector from the battery, touching the connectors together… Also, no codes. i’m running out of ideas. I don’t have money to take to the dealership they will flush my bank dry.
