Nav & Sirius antenna in 2005 Ram
I plan on changing my Sirius capable radio to a RB1 Nav radio which is also Sirius capable. Question is, will I need two antennas - one for nav and one for Sirius? Or will one satellite antenna serve both? Thanks.
No you will need two antennas, and the RB1 accepts inputs from the Sirius radio. The RB1 is only a navigation radio which provides a better interface for your seperate Sirius radio module.
In case you didn't know you will probably have to put the antenna's on the dash. Roof mounting was not an option for my Sirius due to the lack of windshild rubber to tuck the wire, it looks fine in the center/front of the dash anyways and the reception is fine. DO NOT let them go out through the cab mounted taillight, it is a recipe for a leak into the light itself of even worse the interior of the truck.
I ran both my nav and XM antennas up the paneling just inside the door jam and up through the weather stripping of the door. They sit right next to the door on the roof of my truck and they are barely even noticed. I would agree with the last post that you should not go through the 3rd brake light as that will not only cause leaks but also...i think ugly. anyways, hope i helped

Just to offer a dissenting opinion, my Terk XM antenna is mounted on my roof ('03 Quad) with the wire running through the top brakelight, about two inches in front of it. It did leak some at first when in the rain, but a little silicon sealant completely cured that. It's a low-profile style antenna, and looks really cool. Feeds my ego quite nicely, kinda like car phone antennas used to.
i originally had a roof mounted sirius antenna...but had it moved to the center of my dash...
When you go to the carwash....the antenna gets the crap beaten out of it and if you look under the antenna (assuming its magnetic on the roof) you will see a lot of fine scratches....i noticed this on a friends truck...and had mine taken off the roof..
I get my truck washed like 2 times a week and do not want any stress on the antenna/wire being moved around on the roof by the carwash..
reception is fine inside the cab....it just cuts out a little more when under a tree or something vs. being on the roof.

hmm after seeing this post maybe I should go reroute the sirrius antenna I put in my dads truck since I went through the 3rd brake light.

I just got my "new" 2005 Dodge RAM Daytona on Sunday and ordered a Dodge RB1 navigation system off e-bay last night. I am VERY concerned about where to mount the antenna, how bad it will stand out on the very slick orange paint, and how to get it there.
Is the general consensus that I could simply put it on the dash and it would be "99% fine"? I think the antenna is grey in color. Is there any way to color match the truck if I have to mount it outside?
I sincerely appreciate any guidance you might be able to provide. At 40 years old, this is my first "To hell with logic and gas mileage, I want this mean looking sport truck" vehicle and I want to keep it's value using OEM accessories, not screw it up, hence my worries about screwing up the look..

My XM antenna is mounted on the back of the cab, right above the rear window next to the gutter. I just used the weather striping to tuck the wire all the way down the gutter, around the door and into the cab. Can only see about 3" of wire with the driver's door open. Other than that, you'd never even know. As a side note for SegWayne, when I bought the truck, the antenna was there, but the wire wasn't hidden. I didn't even realize that the truck had come with the all the XM gear, and I gave it a pretty good walk-around when I was test driving it.
