you can get a smooth race car type hose that is insulated silicone coated from a company i used to work for. Its not cheap but it is what the professionals use. i am working on this now with a spare air box. i will post when done

I just think that the filter that goes into the stock air box allows a certain amount of air in...the air that is being "forced" into that $3 tube at the bottom cant go any faster than it would without the tube...and really what's the point of keeping the stock air box if you want an air ram type system? you can completely take off the filter, box, and just leave the intake port open...more power...but the filter is in place to not allow dirt in...sooo...the point of intake modification is to allow more air in, while still being filtered at the same time...this modification did absolutely nothing...you are not allowing more air in at all...i dunno what else to say about it

I would rather get real forced induction, like a..... twin turbo set-up. I'm sure if I ever dream up the money for it, i will dream it up.

i think that its a cool thing that you thought it up and did your own "homeade" modification to it, however, i do not like the way it looks. sure its not noticable for the most part on the outside of the truck but when you look under the hood and open up the airbox and look under the fliter it looks sloppy. i agree with alot of the stuff that other ppl have said. i would fit something to the end of the hose (sort of like a bell shaped something or other) so that all the air goes into the hose and doesnt leave any space around it. i would also improve it by buying a cold air intake system and attaching your ram air system on that. i also agree you should get a better hose to use and something that will be more resistant to heat as that looks like it will get hot easily after being by the hot engine for a while. i do not agree when you say it "forces" the air in. no air is being forcefully pushed into the vehicle it is simply flowing in the exact same as it would were it stock but the difference is that you found a possibly better route for it to go that allows more airflow. i also think that you should put a tiny screen in it so that it will keep rocks out because being so low to the ground there is the possiblity of another vehicle kicking up a rock and it bouncing into your hose. overall i see where it has its merits and i see where it also has a lot of flaws that could be worked out but then again it was your first try and you will almost always have a few improvements to be made at first i hope you will take into consideration some of what i and others have said and take it constructively and not as if we are putting you down. I give you points just for thinking it out and designing something yourself.

amazing that this is still alive...he goofed a bit..let it rest.
he understands the "concept" ...just not the "functional application" of what "RAM AIR" is/does.
the will be little to zero positve pressure at the instake of the engine...we all know that....
but at the very least, he has a "fresh air intake" or CAI if you will.....albeit of applied shadetree mechanics.
