Default I drove a 4.7 while Hemi was in shop?

My wife's Hemi Durango was in the paint shop and I was given a 2006 slt ram to drive. I let my wife drive my truck(hemi also). After a day of that truck I wanted my own back. My wife drove the truck for a day and said to me, "We are going to have to have a Hemi all the time because that truck had no power."

Yeah, it takes regular gas, but I had to drive it like I stole it to get it to move. It's gas mileage was worse and not any better than my Hemi.

Before you 4.7 guys start a flame war, this was just my observation and posted so Hemi guys can feel good about their extra $15 a month payment plus mid grade.

Well I drive a 4.7 and feel it has gobs of power. Despite pathetic gas milage I dont have any issues with the 4.7 performance....................................... .................................but then again, I am a old man! )

It is.

The 4.7L is a good motor for its intended use...for work in a truck. Every dometic manufacturer offers a mid-size V8. Chevy-4.8L, Ford-4.6L. They are intended to allow working people on a budget to use thier truck as a truck, not a grocery getter. They can haul, tow, etc but might be a little slower, but still competent to get the job done.

Now, when comparing the 4.7L to the Hemi, there will be a big difference in feel, especially after being use to the power of the Hemi. Heck, even when I jump in my brothers 5.4L F-150, it feel anemic and that is Ford's top offering.

On the flip side, when I drove a Hemi powered Megacab 4x4 the other day, it felt slow compared to my truck now, but the power was still more than acceptable.

Personally, I think the 4.7L is a great motor, but when comparing hp to hp in a similar vehicle, of course the Hemi comes out on top.

Alien, you should try taking a spin in a 4.7 with the 5 speed manual, it may change your mind! I've driven a rental 4.7 automatic in the past and compared to the manual tranny, there is a big difference (if you can properly utilize the 5 speed for it's purpose).

I concur, I can leave 15ft rubber trails with my manual 4.7 No of course its not a Hemi type power, but its good enough for me. If I take it easy on the throttle I can AVERAGE 16-17mpg. Whats your left foot doin?[8D]

ok....

this is like comparing a gix 1k to a gix 600
(sorry, I'm into and race sportbikes as much as possible)

1k obviously will have more power. And in most cases its not much more in financing. But going down a road, taking the kids to school, being in a sexy beast of a truck, hauling a normal trailor, getting up to speed at a normal rate: its ALL the same hemi or not. I'd love a hemi it would be fun - but it would get me into trouble and for my daily use its NO different then running a 4.7l

Finally I'm stirred enough to make my first post. Hi. I do not desire the infamous hemi. My 4.7 6-speed 4X4 has better power and mileage than my old 87 Power Ram 150 5.2 4-speed 4X4 ever did. Plus I like the fact that my foot is connected directly to the throttle body and I can decide when I need to shift. I do have a 2nd gen Ram 2500 V10 2WD that will tame your hemi quite easily. But you don't see me jumping on the soap box about that.[sm=dontgetit.gif]

Comparing a 2nd Gen V10 to a Hemi isn't a very accurate comparison. The V10 will take the Hemi as far as low end torque, but "taming" is quote a bold statement. Line up your V10 against a stock Hemi, first one to 60 mph wins - sorry to say, but you'll get you a$$ kicked
