6600 lbs is a LOT more than a half ton Quad Cab! A 2006 Half Ton 4x4 Hemi curb weight is 5273 lbs. So, you are asking the same engine to carry an extra 1400 lbs. That reduces the power to weight ratio. It shows in the acceleration tests between a Quad Cab and Mega Cab. My point isn't which is faster, it is that the Hemi has to work harder to move 6600 lbs, than it does 5273. The result is worse gas mileage, less acceleration, less passing power in exchange for more room.

The Heavy Duty truck is rated to haul, tow, plow much more than its Light Duty brother. We are going to pay for this prowess. The CTD doesnt get any better mpg. A+B='s C, there is no way around it. If We want a muscle truck, we are going to pay for it at the pumps. I dont see too many HEMI owners trading them in for a 6cill Dakota. I wonder if people a bitching about MPG on the HUMMER forum?

Um, I think the CTD gets better gas mileage than the Hemi. Last fall When I was towing my car and everything I own to Maryland, I got 16.5MPG, I think thats average for 1500 Hemi owners. Unloaded I hover around 20MPG.

Also, my engine isn't even broken in yet, right now I only have 17,000 miles.

What's the difference in gas prices between deisel and 89 where's you're at? I filled up today, 89 Octane at $2.56. When I was looking at buying my Ram, I had budgeted at $1.80 per gallon and even threw in an increase to $2.00. Never expected it to go this high. gonna have to save up and buy a motorcycle now, hehe.

I have a K&N drop-in, a homemade intake tract and I have replaced my muffler with a 3" piece of straight pipe.
I see 14 - 15 in the city and I've seen my mpgs hit 22.7mpg on the highway at about 65mph.

Free up your intake.
Free up your exhaust.
Don't press the right foot down so hard and you'll see results.

well if you buy a 06 ram mega cab 1500 4x4 slt HEMI you really cant bitch too much about gas. if you date a fat chick, expect to pay for a few biggie size meals.

i did see somewhere ( http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,189448,00.html ) that gas mileage on trucks is scheduled to increase. maybe hold out and trade in.

Diesel here has dropped down to only 2-3 cents higher than 89 octane. It used to be 4-5 cents higher than 93 octane a month or so ago, so I 'm hoping the cost will stay down (thats one reason why I got the diesel over a power wagon). I hear you on the bike, I got the Ninja right now, and I might get a Harley Sportster when I sell my car.

4.56 is going to lower gas mileage, most Rams come with 3.93 or 4.10 (maybe 3.73 for some 1500's?). One way to increase MPG is to get larger tires. You will lose acceleration, but right now I think its worth it.

abarmby, your 2p equals about 3.5 cents

anyway
lets look at it like this, if you are getting a high of 14mpg (lets just use that figure for now) and at $2.44/gal for reg unleaded it costs you 17 cents per mile (2.44/14=.17) for my Cummins, I have had a low of 12mpg, and a high of 19. so I'll use the higher number as well, Diesel costs $2.55/gal($2.55/19=.13) it costs me .13 cents per mile. so yes it is cheaper if you got the Diesel in your case. but lets go back a few weeks when reg unleaded could be had for as low as 2.12 here and Diesel was 2.49. for your truck the cost per mile was .15 cents per mile, and for me it was about the same 13 cents per mile. so once again it is cheaper for my truck.

however, my little yoda is just the opposite, I average about 26mpg on that little thing even with the engine strung out to 4-5K

anyway that comes to aboutt 10 cents per mile in fuel costs.

yes, it would be better to get the diesel, but the only thing about it is that the initial cost is higher, and the initial fuel mileage is in the crapper. I rolled off the lot at 12mpg and I was being easy with her. now it take me putting ricers in their place for me to drag the mileage to 12. if I keep my truck under 60mph, I can see 21mpg and this is still with 4.10's
