Default Vibrations in the Driveline

I am driving a 2003 CTD 4x4 with a six speed transmission. I began to notice a vibration about a month ago which has progressively worsened. At first it occurred when I hit a bump or a pot hole but now vibrates particularly bad during deceleration at speeds from 18 - 10 mph. It will definitely vibrate at 30 - 40 mph as well but not as bad and even subsides at greater speeds. Truck is stock everything. Thought perhaps an imbalanced tire or bent wheel but things are getting worse fast and no evidence of uneven wear. I read in other posts about imbalanced drive shafts or yoke problems but I am skeptical because the problem is more pronounced at slower speeds. It doesn't matter whether I am braking or not or if the clutch is engaged. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Just a thought, Did you check your U-joints to see if they were bad.

I had a look at them and they look fine. Also, I tried to rock the drive shaft back and forth and all I got was very slight movement in the diff.

Could be a bent axle shaft. Does it vibrate in the front or in the rear? If it's the front, it could be a bent steering component.

I have an 06 Ram Sport 2500 QC HEMI and had a vibration when I accelerated and hit 1200 RPM. I narrowed it down to the exhaust system. I had a Gibson Performance Swept Side exhaust installed and no more vibration. The dealer told me that they have been having trucks come in with the same problem and they have been adding an extra clamp to the exhaust.

There is a TSB out on vibration with the Hemi that calls for clamping a weight on the exhaust pipe.

For tough to find sources of vibration, this is how Chrysler advises finding it:

My service center gave me a new driveshaft, said they replace a lot of them. Filler inside them cracks so they say and causes a lot of body vibration. Just a thought....

You should check your tires very carefull maybe even take it to a tire shop and have them do it, there is a very good chance you have a bad tire or wheel. I had the same prob. with 96 ram and it was hard to diagnose.

Noticed an oscillating vibration while test driving my 07 Ram 1500 4x4 QC Hemi prior to taking delivery. Inital impression by me and the dealer was an out-of-balance tire. Turns out the rear driveline is out of balance and the front may very well be AFU as well. Pisses me off that DC can't take a few extra steps to ensure they deliver a vehicle free of major defects.
