Default Opinions on an exhaust upgrade...

As you all know, I love to fiddle with my truck, but I don't have a lot of money right now, so I like to do things "on the cheap" hehe... Like my clear-headlight mod, and removing all moldings and decals, and cranking the bars for lift instead of paying for a leveling kit... I shelled out $1200CAD for 4 new 20" tires and an oil change not too long ago... So as I said, not a lot of money for mods right now... I also dropped my resonator (and posted pics and vids) and then I dropped my factory muffler and installed a glasspacks muffler for $50.

Welllllllllllllll... Now down to business, I have come into contact with the owner of a muffler shop (through my new job) and I was talking to him about my truck while dropping off a company vehicle... The idea was to completely remove the stock exhaust system up to the catalytic converters... Most of that has been done on my own, haha, I must have removed about 8 feet of exhaust by now, what with dropped the tailpipe and resonator, and the stock muffler...

I mean, the truck is plenty loud enough right now, but I am starting to think more preformance wise. I am thinking that I would like to remove the Y-collector and go with a true dual exhaust. The gentleman who runs the muffler shop said that he could cut off my existing glasspack muffler, cut out the Y-collector, and remove all pipe right back to the catalytic converter... Then proceed to custom bend some pipe to run from the catalytic converter on the driver side, over to the passenger side, and have both catalytic converters dump right into a dual-in dual-out magnaflow muffler, and then run a couple of exhaust pipes out from the magnaflow muffler... All for under $500CAD. He also said that he could custom design and bend cold air intake pipe in my engine compartment.

For less than $500CAD should I get this work done?

I have become VERY accustomed to the way my glasspack sounds, I really love it... I am worried that switching to a magnaflow true dual setup will disappoint me?
Does anyone have any first-hand experience with a setup like this?
Will I be looking at any HP gains by going with a true dual setup? Or was removing the resonator and factory muffler sufficient enough?

I also plan to put a superchips or hypertech tuner on the truck. I want to make the truck breathe as easily as possible...

i have a 2006 ram 1500 quad cab with a magnaflow muffler and an air raid cold air intake and it sounds awsome. i still have my resanator on now to keep it from droning in the cab. great set up and not that exspensive. beats the hell out of a cat back system for 600.00 dollars

$500 for a true dual exhaust is cheap, thats assuming that hes mandrel bending the piping otherwise, you wont gain the best flow. its a good price for an aluminum exhaust. its dirt cheap if hes doing it with stainless steel. i have heard glasspacks and they sound pretty good. im my opinion, true dual exhaust sounds the best out of any other possible exhaust you can buy for the ram, but thats just my opinion.

Magnaflow. Been on the durango and on the ram. Has a nice deep growl to it. But if you want loud, I'd go with flowmaster.

If you go true dual, I'd still be wary of losing torque. Even the muffler shop guys I talk to now seem to understand the Hemi's problems with losing backpressure. I'd get smaller pipes to try and get the same cross-section of flow.

I am with Zilla. I had the Flowmaster and now have the Magnaflow. The Flows were too loud in the Cab. The Magnaflow is adult loud. If you are used to Glasspacks you may not like the Magnaflow. Super Quiet at Cruise but Rip when you get on it. I like it Alooooot.

I've also got a magnaflow setup and would say if you want way loud it's not for you....even without the resonator (2500's don't come w/resonators to my knowledge, at least mine didn't) it's fairly tame....

In terms of a true dual setup, in all of my experience along with several buddies who are hardcore SCCA racers ('stangs, 'vette's, all V8 types) an "X" pipe or "H" pipe of sorts was needed to equalize pressure in both banks....I don't pretend to fully understand but again, all of the really nice setups I've seen utilize this type of system. Other than this I agree with others, reduce your pipe size (maybe 2.5" or even 2") to maintain some backpressure....

Good luck...interested to see what you go with !

2.5 inch manderel bent pipe with an x-pipe, and 2 hooker aero chamber mufflers. jeg's sells a universal exhaust kit so you can do it yourself too.
