So, the weather is kind of ****ty here today, 50 degrees outside... But the rain has stopped. And assuming that the rain does not come back, there is a sponsored street-legal drag racing night tonight just outside of the city at our Castrol Raceway...

Most of you know my truck already, it's a 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 HEMI SLT/LARAMIE 4x4 Quad Cab. I'll be running 91 octane, about 1/2 full... I have my resonator and muffler removed, and I have a K&N filter. I run the 3.92 gears with 20" rims with racing tires... I do not have a superchip or anything yet...

Should I run in 4-HI?
Should I run with tow-haul mode on?

Should I bother removing the spare tire?

I've never been to the track before, so I'm really exicted and I want to prepare as much as possible (weather permitting of course).

Racing tires? Like slicks or drag radials? What kind and brand?

No, the 2wd is fine and if you go that fast in 4-Hi, your truck will not appreciate it.

I have heard people say this is supposed to make you faster, but I ran with it once and the difference was negligble. But, thats just my $.02.

No, the weight won't make that much of a difference anyway. Way more work then results.

My guess would be high mid 15's until you get the tree figured out, then low 15's MAYBE a 14.9X

True, but I should have elaborated. If you figure out how to launch hard without red-lighting, that will help. Brewcity is right, your R/t won't necessarily improve, but your 60 ft and overall time will if you launch hard.

I guess those have more bite then a normal tire, but I wouldn't consider them racing tires. Make sure to get some heat in them, drive around the water box and spin them a few times. No need to be John Force or anything. Driving around the water box prevents water from being flung up into the fenders and later dripping back down. I can't imaging having too much traction issues unless you leave to hard.

Well, I just got back, I was there for 2 hours, and raced a total of 21 times...
I sucked at first, with the worst 1/4 mile time of over 17 seconds, however, after about my first 3 runs, I was running 16.2 all night long, my final run was as follows;

R/T: .365
60': 2.369
330:6.747
1/8: 10.396
MPH: 67.96
1000: 13.504
1/4: 16.178
MPH: 83.71

Yup, about what I expected. Mostly stock 4x4 qc's run in the low to high 16's.

Well you could really get your times down with headers and cam's. A cam alone can add 50HP. You could get into the low 14's before you would need anything like a power adder.
