Default Any Problems with your Paint?

I'm just curiouse if anyone has had any problems with their trucks paint ie peeling off or "blistering"? I ask because my neighbor had an early 90's Ram 1500 and the paint was just horrible on it due to it bubbling up and cracking and peeling off, it was really quite sad and I dont want it to happen to my 05' Ram 1500, so has anyone had or heard of any problems with this on the newer Rams or was it corrected after those 90's models?

Also I know it wasnt just his truck doing it because Ive seen quite a few of the of the early 90's model trucks driving around town here with the same thing happening to them as well.

My 94 ram 1500 was red and the paint was all cracking and turning white was really bad. But my 04 ram's paint so far has no problem looking good still except for some small scratches.

Bck in the early to mid 90's Dodge Ford[:'(] and Chevy[:@] had the problem do to the EPA making them change the type of paint they used. Now days they have all the buggs worked out of the paint so you should not have any problems, at least I did not on any of my last 4 Dodge trucks from 2000 to 2006.

Most manufacturers use water-based paints these days. It's basically some super-polymer-technical-mumbo-jumbo-whiz-bang-new-fangled-whozie-whatit stuff... Normally pretty solid, but still has issues with the "metallic" colors... Still can't seem to get those flakes to stop acting like little magnifying lenses and literally ROASTING the paint off the body. Dark-colored non-metallic paints also compare poorly to lighter colors.... which is why I've resigned myself to owning white vehicles.... kinda hard to screw up white.. And as it heats less than any color, it certainly seems to look "new" a lot longer... (Not to mention it's amazing dirt-hiding abilities!)

Had a black '96 1500 Sport, and the clearcoat on the nosecap started bubbling after about 2 years, I think.

My silver '03 Quad has perfect paint, still flawless as the day I bought it (other than a very slight factory defect on the roof).

I had a 93 Dakota, dark blue metallic. All the paint on the roof and hood----gone!! Funny thing is, the fiberglass cap I had on it looked near new in the paint all over, and it was color matched. I talked to a guy in a body shop about it and he told me it had something to do with the original primer coat for the raw metal. He coulda been pullin my leg for all I know. It was really sad. I had a lot of reservations about getting my new truck at first because of this, but with some research, it seems they have the troubles corrected. I do know this much, if I have to shell out the bucks to repair it in the future, its going to polyurethane, if I can get the color.

Your "GUY" was right. The EPA changed the guidelines overnight and manufacturers were scrambling to meet them. Needless to they couldn't come up with a quality product overnight and most auto manufacturers had issues with paint adhesion because of this.

My paint is fine. Like was mentioned, the government imposed some tight restrictions and it took a while to get things right. I wouldn't worry about the paint and enjoy the shine

My 2001 black dodge dakotas clear coat is failing. I've washed and applied paint sealant on it on a regular basis as i am a detailer and my truck has to look perfect all the time.
