Well Im thinking about getting the AEM CAI but my only concern is that from watching the video on thier web site for cleaning they say to use 2 full bottles of solution to clean the thing which seems like a waste to me and very expencive too! So how often do you need to clean it (can it last past the 3000 mile/30day oil change) and how much do those cleaning solution bottles cost? I know K&N filters "recharge" kits can be used multiple times and they're only like $12+/- for the kit and it lasts a long time.

 

THis is a very subjective question.

The only way to get a true answer is if someone did a base dyno, then an after. Given the small gains it will be hard to find people who did that as dyno pulls are costly to prove the small gain. In many ways I think the manufacturers count on that so their claim of 15HP is not challenged, and for good reason.

I have thought about products like these then putting a challenge to the manufacturer. Basically stating I would do a base dyno, let the engine cool, install and do another dyno right away. Then if I did not get what they claim within the dyno's margin of error I get my money back and keep their product. I would think some manufacturers would shy away from that challenge, OK I am rambling.....

I would get the one that looks the nicest as almost all aftermarket CAI's will perform within a HP or 2 of each other.

 

Any good, name brand, will work. You might see a difference in HP, MPG, etc, but is it worth the price tag? I can buy a lot of gas for the $250+ that is charged for these CAI. If it is worth it, for what ever reason, let us know what you choose and how you like it. It is always nice to have new feedback about any product for our Rams

 

Well after looking over everything I think Im gonna go with the K&N CAI. It just seems alot more practical than the AEM pluse I can get the cleaner for it alot easier. So has anyone used or had any problems with this CAI?

I had the K&N on a 96 GMC I had. Worked fine and no problems, at least with the K&N, the GMC was another story.

The amount of money mis-spent on CAI's in search of MPG improvements
would be much better spent on improved exhaust systems and lower rolling resistance tires.

Carefull.... Hank is ANIT =AIR=RAM=> INDUCTION so keep that in mind when you read his typical long winded "CUT & PAST" Post. Im sure he will have somthing to add to your comment... But for the recored I agree that not all induction systems will perform the same and many are NOT true cold air induction systems... those are the ones giving us a bad name. People test ONE intake and then assume they are all the same and post that as solid conclusive information.

So basically what you guys are saying is that the CAI do nothing for your vehicle except to give it a more agressive sound? And eventhough the CAI by K&N that Im looking at "claims" to give you 10hp+ gain a drop in filter would do more? Im sorry but even with the results that were posted it still seems hard to believe that keeping the stock system would be more productive than one that is more open and allows more airflow.

 

Actually a "DROP IN" K&N filter has been proven to lose 4-5HP and 1-2MPG on the 3rd Gen Ram.... so NO a Drop in filter will NOT do you any good other than you can re-use it, that may save you money after 80,000 miles...
