I had a 99 dodge 4x4 sport with a 5.9L. At best It was around 10-11MPG on a well tuned and taken care of motor, around town if I remember correctly it was more like 8-9MPG. Sad to say those 5.9's are just pigs.

I thought dodge stopped making the 5.9L engine in the 03's.

Ditch the extra weight.....spare tire, jack, junk/trash behind the seats. If you can, run 1/2 tank of gas or less (in the summer). Gas adds about 6-7 pounds per gallon......add about 2 pounds of air to the recommended air pressure in your tires (DON"T exceed the max pressure listed on the sidewall!!!) That alone can add a mile per gallon.

they stopped half way through the year i think only 10% of 03 1500 were 5.9 it was the optional engine then, then they stopped it and went to the 5.7 i should have waited huh!
