First of all, you only need to post one thread about a problem. Not all threads are replied to right away.

Secondly, your other thread was a lot more descriptive and helpful for people trying to help with your problem.

Thirdly, death wobble is almost ALWAYS caused by play in the trac bar. It's a steering issue. So you'll have to go under the truck and watch the trac bar while someone SLOWLY turns the wheel and see if there's any play in it....or play anywhere else.

Are you still under warranty at 21,000 miles? They should replace it for nothing if you are.

Some trucks may experience sudden, violent shaking in the front end and steering wheel. This is often triggered when a pothole or bump is hit, and usually only occurs at highway speeds. The biggest culprit is insufficient caster. Another symptom of insufficient caster is the steering wheel not returning to center after cornering. Try having your caster adjusted to +4 degrees. (A truck that is within factory alignment specs may still experience this problem, so don't be afraid to tell the alignment shop you want +4 to +5 degrees.) Loose steering parts such as tie-rod ends, steering box, and ball joints will also contribute to this problem. Other things to check are wheel bearings, steering damper, and toe-in setting.

I had a similar problem w/ my '05 2500 when it was brand new. It turned out to be a stabilizer.

ROM, I know this is an old thread that I'm sort of reviving, but in regards to the "Death Wobble" (cute name, but accurate) another poster recommended adding 4 degrees of caster. A. Is this possible on an 04 2500 4x4? B. What would adding this 4 degrees do exactly?

I had an alignment done last week after I described the problem to the shop. They found the front endway "Out Of Whack".They put it back "In Whack" but the truck still has a bit of a shudder that definately makesmybackside pucker up a bit, especially after I experienced a full blown Death Wobble. The shudder occurs during the same events that caused the original wobble problem, just no where near as bad as it was before. I asked them to check everything other than the steering damper (I replaced it the day before) and they didn't find anything amiss! Go figure.

With 73K miles on the truck, I don't want to start replacing things ***** nilly. But since you've said the Track Bar is almost always the cause, what are the chances that mine could be bad, even though the shop should have checked it? I thought DC redesigned these from the 94-01 to be better, stronger, faster????

Sorry for rambling but I'm concerned about my rig since it will soon be used to transport my family and the newest cookie cruncher / tricycle motor. I want it in A1 shape.

I have a 2004 Quad 2500 4x4 with the death wobble.

The dealer has tried to fix it 4 times. Changed tie-rods, steering dampers, ball joints, adjusted alignment etcand a nuimber of other things.

This wobble is so serious that it is going to result in serious injury or death.

Dodge claims that they do not know what causes it and they sure don't know how to fix it so I suspect they may not know the cause. But I do know that they are aware of it. The dealership tells me that they have seen many cases of death wobble. If someone knows how to solve this please reply.

welcome to DF...

have a look at this thread... has a lot of info in it. I personally believe that added caster into the alignment will fix 99% of the DW problems out there. The ones that have bad suspension components most likely have them because of the DW...

I finally got mine to go away.

Ball Joints were definately bad, but what did the trick before their replacement was replacing the shocks. That did the best to remove the wobble.

Now that the joints have been replaced, the front feels brand new.

Default 2006 Ram Death wobble Fix

I Have a 2006 dodge ram SLT Quad Cab with 22 inch rims and a 6 inch lift. My original tires that came with the truck 325-50-22 AT's were worn out at 60k miles. Keep in mind i had no problems with the truck. I then had new tires put on the truck 295-50-22 ST's. On the way home i had a serious death wobble at 60 mph that almost killed me and my fiance. I took the truck back to the tire shop, put it on the lift and discovered slopy tie rods and ball joints. I then ordered new parts from dodge. all new front steering linkage, new upper and lower ball joints, new shocks and had them installed at a total cost of $2900. After install i took the truck out on the freeway. Now i have the death wobble at 70 mph and not 60 mph so $2900 later i have only gained 10 mph. My next purchase that i made this morning is a Steering gear box stabilizer that ties the two front frame rails together. I have read that the flexing of the frame rails causes the steering box to move thus causing serious wobble. I have talked to many people that have installed this product ($225) and it has fixed the death wobble and has also fixed low speed wandering. You can read about it here http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/d...zer/index.html
I will keep you informed at the progress of my death wobble problem cause I will find out what is the problem.
