my 05 has rust, RUST!
ok not that big a deal, but it really does bother me. The back corner of the bumper, really the edge has started to rust.
Whats the best way to take care of this; should i try some kinda compound? or am i going to have to sand it, and then repaint; basically take it to the shop? Or should i just ignore it; my fear is that it will spread; not sure the reality of this......thoughts

If you have rust coming through the paint, it will spread. I wouldn't be surprised if it came from a rock chip that started it. I plan to have bed liner shot on mine from the front to the back starting at the lower body line down, and wrap around the lower seam.
They use a lot of salt on the roads here, and this has been about the only thing that seems to work if you want to keep your truck for a very long time--as I do

Isn't this covered under some kind of warranty? You must live in a midwest type climate? Another poster suggested this and I think it might be a great idea to get the lower rocker panels, rear lower 1/4 panels sprayed with a line-x type bed liner material.
If you are refering to the crome bumper then try rubing it with Coka-cola. The acid in it will eat through the rust. If you do this you will need to use a "Mothers" type product to protect it afterwords and to bring back the shine. But first check to see if its covered, but I doubt it is.
If you live in a northern state, this is common. Its just a little surface rust on the corner of the bumper. If you take it to the dealer all they are gonna do is rub it out, just like you would. Trust me my 05 has it to, its from salt and road crap. Im just to lazy to rub it out.

I noticed and have read other posts on it as well but it seems like there are quite a few interior (seat mounting brackets, behind the cup holder, etc) unfinished parts that have accumulated rust as well as many parts underneath the truck, the same thing. Lots of rust. I took a can of rustoleum to the underside of my truck after a week of having it because there were so many places rusting. 05 by the way and down south where it is humid!
We had a customer with very minor surface rust on his '05 bumper.
It was minor, but it was enough for HIM to notice and bring to my attention.
So if it's enough to cause customer concern I took care of him.
A few days later we had a new bumper on his pickup, covered under warranty.
He had 12k on his.
There is no reason warranty won't pay that.
If your dealer just wants to polish it - tell him no way - you want it replace. Polish is only a temp. fix - once the chrome finish is compramised the steel will just continue to rust.
