Please Help: 2006 Vibration
I have an appointment at the dealer for Wednesday morning. I'm sure this will be only the beginning.
I have been "researching" the problem and have found a total of 20 people including me on this and another forum complaining of the same thing. All of the vehicles were 2006's.
One thing I would recommend to all experiencing this problem is to file a complaint at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/
Another recommendation would be to call the number pungohboy stated earlier (1-800-922-1997).
I will be documenting everything I do, and have already printed about 30 pages of forum posts pertaining to this problem.
Hopefully something will be done about this.

They're making progress. They have the axle, shocks, wheel bearing and other components in. They think they've identified the original source of the vibration that caused it all, which was the driveshaft. They have one on order - should be here tomorrow. Hopefully that will work everything out.
Took mine in this morning, explained everything, got the truck back 2 hours later. I was told one of the tires was out of balance and it was corrected. I told the service rep I would call "if" (read - when) I experience the problem again. Halfway home I finally hit a smooth section of pavement, and guess what, vibration still there. I pull off and phone the guy and he tells me to bring it back, and he would contact the shop foreman on my way. I get back and the foreman drives the truck with me and and experiences the problem. He tells me he thinks it is bad tires.
To keep from making a long story longer, I just talked with them and they found that all 4 tires are bad (Michelin), and have some on the way. Luckily they have given me a free rental car, as they will be keeping the truck overnight.
I'll let you guys know what happens Friday after I get the truck back, good luck to you all as well.

Just an update: I got the truck back from the dealer today - they told me to take it for the weekend to see what I thought. It feels like a new truck, all things considered (like a new truck should!
) There's still a minor vibration (NOTHING compared to what it was), which I believe/hope is just tire related now (given how long they've had it and the circumstances, I'm hoping Chrysler can be talked into putting a real set of tires on it) which they said they'd sort out next week if that's the problem. Other than that -- I think this is what a Ram is supposed to be.
I hope everyone else has some luck. As I said before, I think the key is simply finding the right dealer. I just kept going dealer to dealer until one actually cared and they'll have my business for life now as a result.
Good luck.

I suppose I spoke a bit too soon. The vibration is still there, it's just much less severe. It seems the original source of the vibration is there, but less noticeable because the effected parts (driveshaft, etc.) were replaced. I would guess that would point to transmission or rear diff... it's annoying whatever it is and seems to be a bit worse under light acceleration and fades in about 45-65... much less noticeable when put in neutral, but still there.
There's also what I'd describe as looseness when shifting from reverse to drive... almost like a clunking. I'd swear the driveshaft/u-joints are still out of wack, but I looked underneath and they were replaced.
Being as I'm not a mechanic, I don't know - but I'm hopeful they'll figure it out.
Round 4 - will keep you updated.

Well, the ended up replacing all four tires after they put them on a Hunter Road Force balancer. The measurements for the original tires were between 50-60, when they should not measure over 20 or so. The measurements for the new tires were between 8-12, (BIG DIFFERENCE). I checked to make sure and do indeed have 4 new tires, and as of yet I have not noticed any vibrations.
One thing I noticed on the old tires was cracking all around the bead of the tires, almost like they were in the beginning stages of dry rot. The new tires do not have this.
On a bad note, I washed the truck yesterday afternoon, and found some service department damage. I noticed when I picked the truck up that one of the wheels was extremely dirty. MUCH dirtier than the rest of the wheels. After I washed the wheel I found numerous scratches and gouges on the face of the wheel. It looks like maybe the tech that put it back on has been watching too much NASCAR.

Sorry to hear of the damage, whitenoise - but am glad your truck is vibration-free! Shocked that all 4 of those Michelins were bad - I've always had good luck with Michelins.
Glad it all worked out for you though.

Well I took my truck to another dealer and they seem to be trying hard. They dont have the Hunter machine but sent my tires to a shop that does and i had 1 tire with 25 and 1 with 48 road force variation or whatever. So i called the tire place and am going back for the 4th time on sat. I guess Chrysler must be buying the tires that are blems or either nobody makes a good tire any more. I asked the service mgr after i get tires put on and it still vibrates what happens he said bring it back he is determined to find it! He said he put the spare on in place of the worse tire and it still vibrated so i think he sees a challenge and is ready to tackle it.
