I would rather have a switch on the tailgate with an idot light on the dash "tailgate open" God knows how many times I have driven off and had whatever come flying out! How about that Chrysler?

well, my solution is a tonneau cover. looks and lock. i mean, it is pricey, but i think it looks great and it prevents the tailgate from being taken off, that easily. remember though, like someboy mentioned earlier, if the person really wants your tailgate, they'll take it. nothing in the world can stop them except for you or somebody who doesnt want the tailgate to be stolen. so, dont whine about locks for the gate... im not going to say its pointless, it isnt. it just slows down the process of theft.

If carrying an extra key seems like a pain, go with the electric tailgate lock that is tied into your electric door locks. Press the key fob and everything unlocks.

Get a tailgate lock, mine was stolen off my truck in the middle of the day in a Coney Island parking lot. I get alot of these trucks in at where i work and have a best time of9 seconds in flipping the straps off and walking away with the gate in my hand.

I wouldn't mind a tail gate lock. It would be nice since I ride motocross so when i'm on my way to the track and I stop to get some grub it will make it wayyyyyyyyy harder for thieves to get my bike.It is quite hard to take a dirtbike or quad out of a truck bed with a tail gate that is up. (I did it on my old truck when the tail gate broke and it sucks)

Color my stupid, but I could never understand the need for a locking tailgate latch....

I was raised with the understanding that locks only keep the honest folks out. (Yeah, tell me how much sense that makes in the city!?!)

A lock on a pickup's tailgate is about as effective as a screendoor on a submarine.
If they want what's in the bed, they're gonna get it.

A truck is a tool... the bed is for transport, not storage...
Folks that want to steal or damage whatever is in the bed will find a way to do it no matter what locks you buy.
Perfectly stated!!
