Until just now I never thought about a lock on my tail gate. None of my Chevy's or my Ford trucks had one. My 04 doesn't have one but this timeI did buy one of those fiberglass lids for it and it has a key lock. SoI guess if they can't see in it they won't try to get in it. When my truck was stolen in September the lid was locked and all my stuff inside was still there when i got it back two weeks later. The only had a key made for the igintion.

Color my stupid, but I could never understand the need for a locking tailgate latch....

I was raised with the understanding that locks only keep the honest folks out. (Yeah, tell me how much sense that makes in the city!?!)

A lock on a pickup's tailgate is about as effective as a screendoor on a submarine.
If they want what's in the bed, they're gonna get it.

A truck is a tool... the bed is for transport, not storage...
Folks that want to steal or damage whatever is in the bed will find a way to do it no matter what locks you buy.
Perfectly stated!!
Haha, This is so funny.. I would hate to say that you people are blind, but the subject isn't about things IN your bed being stolen. It's about the TAILGATE itself being stolen. This is very common, and happens here in the L.A. area all the time, (and L.A. is far from being rural) so I think it can happen anywhere. A tailgate only takes about 15 seconds to pull off, I do it all the time. My uncle has an F250 and it had a lock on it, but he didn't lock it, and $425.00 later, he had to buy a new tailgate.

I do think however, if you are dissappointed in Dodge because they don't have a tailgate lock, that's a little overboard, especially if your main reason for not getting an aftermarket lock is because you don't want to carry around and extra key! But to each his own. Sorry that your Laramie doesn't have a tailgate lock, I sure hope you can get over that frustrating fact, and get on with enjoying such a nice vehicle. Good Luck!

one would assume that somebody who was gonna admit to stealing stuff (and he said hes not a professional theif but hes obviously done it enough times to know how to do it quickly) off of peoples trucks like that would be smart enough NOT to have their whole name and their location in their profile. you know how easy it would be for somebody to take that information and find you? this isnt a threat by me im not gonna drive my *** all the way up there and you havent done anything to me anyways, but if somebody really wanted to they could take your name, city, state and zip, and easily find your house address or phone number. i think that the statement you just made has probably ruined you from ever having a good reputation on this forum.

motorider, i see in your sig it says AT3030...what is that exactly???

haha yeah my tactical 12 guage with an 18 inch barrel and pistol grip pump takes care of people that steal. Oh yeah, it's the same gun las vegas swat uses and it holds 7 shells. It would leave a nice sized hole in someones torso or take the head clean off.......well it wouldn't be that clean.

i dont like it when people who steal from me neither but you guys should remember. why are they stealing them? thats easy its money! whether its body shops tring to get parts cheap so they can make money cause insurance are tell them they will only pay so much to fix your truck cause they gave you a discount on your premium. or the dealerships charging such high prices for a piece of sheet metal and you dont even get it painted! now you got to think everyone likes a deal so by shooting him you loose your deal but i guess you dont have to worry about that you'll be in a cell and when you get out your precious truck will be all rusted out( cause it was thin and cheap when made)and you will want a deal. so whos fault is it the guy whos trying to make money or the guy who wants the deal! plus you got to thick the lock thats in fords and chevys is in the plastic handle and with a screwdriver can gotten around, dodge realizes this and doesnt bother with wasting your money on something that will only put 3 extra seconds on the guy, when in the end he still gets your gate!
