had another one today, he had been blown off by another dealer twice. his was 1/2 lb low on refrigerent. We checked his truck together after the repair and got 46 degrees from vents with 94 degrees outside! Dont overlook the charge rate, alot of svc techs wont even check it if the ac blows cold when the get in the truck! Crappy equipment is a cause too! if the ac equipment is out of calibration, it wont display the correct amount of refrigerent. ASK QUESTIONS! ASK TO WITNESS THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS, ASK TO SEE THE TECHS CERTIFICATIONS, ASK HOW OLD THE EQUIPMENT IS AND WHEN IT WAS CALIBRATED LAST.

YOU GUYS DONT NEED TO REPLACE YOUR TRUCK, JUST YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER!!!!

 

it takes a while for my quad cab to get cool but oh well the air works good with the windows down and doing 70 mph haha

 

This is clearly an intermittent problem... I have had mine to the dealer twice for the AC problem, and two different dealers no less... Now they are both telling me no problems found... Now I'll load my family up for an 8 hour drive to 95 degree Oklahoma for this weekend and it will stop working again... I'm starting to get pissed off here...

I have been a GM man all my life and bought a Mega Cab in December. I fell in love with the MC as soon as I sat in the cab. I love GM trucks but the back seats just don’t cut it for long road trips so bought a 2006 mega cab 3500 in December. It is fire engine red and loaded. And nearly as big as fire truck! My wife, my son and I all loved the truck until about 3 weeks ago. I live in south Florida and the AC didn’t seem all that bad until the temp started to get up above 85. I immediately went to a Dodge dealership and had them check out the AC. They told me it was functioning fine. I drove home and did some research on the Internet and discovered that Dodge has a problem with the circulator door (not sure is that is the tech name or not). I guess it is prone to breaking.I also read that Dodge will fix the door for a fee. 2hours labor.

I went out and fiddled with my AC and noticed that when the AC was on high it made lots of noise but there was hardly any air flowing. I hit the recirculation button on and off a few times and then it got better. Not a bunch but it was noticeable. I took the truck for a ride and it did help some but this AC truly does suck!

I have never had an issue with any of my GM trucks or cars no matter how hot it gets. My wife drives a Tahoe with dual AC and we never use the rear A****il it hits 88 or so. The area in my Tahoe is way bigger than the MC and it takes only a few minutes to cool it down and then I have to run the AC on low or medium or it will freeze your you know what’s off! I have to run my MC on high (with circulation on) for 20 minutes before it starts to get even close to cold and one of you guys mentioned that if you open the door or roll down the window for a toll for something it will take minutes to obtain the temp you had before you opened the door.

I came across this web site and read all of your comments. I can tell you that I can sympathize with all of you mega cab owners. My truck is a daily driver and I bought this truck to pull my boat and camper. It does both of those things as well as any truck could but with the heat and humidity we have in south Florida, getting to work or going somewhere on my lunch break with out soaking my cloths from sweat is impossible.

I still love this truck and I will continue to pressure Dodge to correct the problem but I will tell you,I going to look into getting a larger AC unit from a AC shop. I hope they have them and if I can't get one I will trade this truck! This AC problem is real and Dodge needs to address this issue. Does anyone have one of the 2008 MCs with this issue? I was thinking about test-driving one to see if they corrected the problem in the newest trucks.

Make some noise with the dealers boys! It's the only way to get this problem fixed.

I have a quad cab, and my AC also sucks. My truck is black, and when it is 70 degrees outside I get in my truck and it is already hot, so I open the rear window and blast the AC and it barely cools it down. It takes roughly 15 minutes to a half hour to cool my truck down to a comfortable level. I live in Texas, and it is about to get really ****ty.

 

Does your Mega have dual air? I just learned there are some that do. In terms of an aux fan for the condenser, remember it isn't the engine pulling the air, it's the separate condenser fan. I've read many threads about this problem. Don't know if I could survive in Florida without the A/C capable of chilling my bones. My QC cools down in just a few minutes.

 

AZ F that stupid lil porthole window, drop all 4 with the ac on full blast, then once youre out of your neighborhood roll the fronts up and youll feel cool and then once youve been driving on a road for bout 30-60 seconds roll em up and you should be fine...

hey if you add a fan with more CFMs than on the AC condenser would that help?

 

I have noticed that there is not a rear vent in the 2008 megacab...sxt to Larime.
I test drove one over night...and the AC was a concern...it was hot and humid in Texas the past few days.
It did take a few minutes but cooled ok for me and was too cool for my wife(go figure)...the kids said it was ok in the back...
I should of sat back there...I would say its a design issue because the other trucks I have tested didnt seem to have this issue as much. Of course I am never in the back.

I should state that my 200k mile suburban a/c is out so any AC is a blessing now.

I returned the truck due to it didnt have the options I wanted.
AC is a big issue with me...I love it cold and cold at slow speeds...

I wonder how the 2009 qc/ large cab Ram will be?
Is Dodge listening?
I dont want to complain too much...but after going over the truck last night...fit, finish and design are not a Dodge strong point. Under the truck there were exposed wires and connections that out in the elements if I was to actualy 4 wheel the beast. Hoses just an inch from the exhust.

 

I havent read through this entire thread ... but those having a problem in my opinion should be pissed ... a 35k truck that has no air ..... come on man !!! Yeah .. if it takes a law suite to get Dodge to get there act together the yes .. by all means it should be done.

I personally am tired of constantly paying for crappy services and merchandise.
