can you bore out engine
Sure you can,but why would you want to?A .030 over bore is only going to gain about 5 cubic inches. The only possible gain I could forsee would be to increase compression. But I would be willing to bet no one makes an aftermarket high performance piston for the 4.7.The cost of a piston manufacturer custom machining a set of blanks would be cost prohibitive. If your dead set to do this you can check with Ross,I know they will custom make a set. Be bareful to not bore over .040 this could cause overheating problems
The expense would in no way justify the 7 or 8 HP you might gain.I would spend the money on A down payment or trading your truck in on one with a 5.7L. The cost of making as much power as the 5.7L would be twice as much as just getting a truck with a Hemi.If I were you I would put a cold air intake and a good exhaust on the 4.7 and just enjoy the truck instead of trying to turn it into something its not,nor was designed to be.
I don't know if I fully agree with the 7-8 hp increase. Take a look at the Chevy 350, when bored out to 355 it can produce a very noticable power gain. The other thing you might consider is having the heads shaved to increase the compression. What is the stock compression on a stock 4.7? Just make sure you run the octane gas in it after doing so.
The hi po pistons available for the 350 chevy are in the hundreds,a few cubic inches one way or the other does not make much difference. Its what you put in the holes after the machine work is done that counts. As far as shaving the heads to increase compression, one would also have to shave the intake to match the new head angle.I would take it to a top level machine shop to have this done. You would need someone that understands angles and formulas or you could end up with vacuum and water leaks.I have seen lots of bad attempts to to this turn into ruined heads,so make sure its someone that deals with this stuff on a regular basis.

If you really want to build HP, why not leave the engine as is and install an STS turbocharger system and properly sized exhaust. By the time you're done with the performance rebuild like you're considering above, I have to imagine you'll be spending nearly the same coin.
