K&N are good filters. I use them exclusively now. Used to use WIX. Fram canister oil filters are garbage.

Well I just gave my new truck, 1500ST, six cylinder, six speed the first oil change at 650 miles. I put Mobil 1 5w-30 in and a fram 3600 filter.

I cut the original MOPAR filter apart, and guess what, the entire filter media is cardboard, around a metal core. Raw gas in an engine used to be an issue with mechanical fuel pumps, but those aren't an issue since the mid-80 or so. However, if a mechanical fuel pump diaphram fails, there will be other indicators and an immediate oil change is warrented.

As for voiding a warrenty, only if the oil filter directly caused the damage, then the filter manufacturer will be liable under the docterine of implied warrenty.

Back to working on the 68 D100 short, narrow...welding in new rocker panels.

Howard

Just had to chime in here since - My Dodge is dealer maintained due to the extended warrany - the dealer is doing my oil changes as part of the extended warranty. I change my oil whentime constraints and scheduling get in the way, but when I do, I useMobil 1 along with aFactory filter. I bought a Fram and on closer inspection - the factory filter had larger oil inlet \ return holes - than the Fram. Not wanting to monkey around I picked up aseveral factory filters and used one of them. I've also cut several oil filters apartthat were used in two of my proejct cars - 69 Camaro and 70 Chevelle - both with big blocks and my 04 Hemi. I use the Fram HP4's on the BBC's andagree that changeingout a filter every 300 miles on a mechanical sound engine doesn't always make sense. The filters in each case were extremely clean other than the oil being dirty \ black. If you get the chance - cut one apart.Nick

Correct they are the high performance filters- I'm using the HP4 on the BBC's due to higher oil pressures (60-90psi)and extra volume, and the rubber seal is much thicker than a normal oil filter.....

HP4? What are BBC's? And if your HP4 has oil pressures of (60-90 psi) what is the psi for a regular oil filter?

Fram HP4 is frams line of High Performance oil filters design with a higer burst psi, allow for more volume, better thicker gasket for sealing agaist the block. BBC Big Block Chevy's. Both of my BBCscarry 60-90psi of oil pressure. Most vehicles see 30-60psi with regards to oil pressure....relly depends on the oil used and the clearances in the motor, as well as,m the type of oil pump used. i.e High volume....
