Yes, there is a Diesel as was stated above. My friend actually has 2 of those suckers. For sale of course... He has a dealership here in SD and well, the truck isn't all that nice in my opinion. But it's a badass truck. So even if the Ford didn't know you were racing or was aware... Congrats!

 

Since you dont know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I have been a street racer/drag racer for 14 years. I have raced everything on the street you can imagine, and have seen others race an even higher variety of vehicles. The lightning you are referring to is probably the last generation that had the 5.4 supercharged motor that made380 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 450 foot-pounds of torque at 3,250 rpm. A strong truck with a 14.2 quarter run, but to say its a BAD *** ride is wrong. I clearly stated that the fastest truck made was the GMC Syclone, it was even faster than the 454SS. Or are you not old enough to remember those?

Also, I have NO brand loyalty or favortism. I used to hate dodge's! But, I go with what is comfortable to me and has the most power. I would have bought a Toyota if it had what I was looking for.

So, again, I say with confidence, that stock on stock, the Lightning is a turd. Not because its a ford, not because of what it is, but because for having almost 400hp, in a standard cab, 3.73 geared, 5200lb truck, you could ONLY muster a 14.2 ???

So to say I am unknowledgable is a false accusation. See below where the HD has 40 less hp and 25 less lb. ft. of torque. Might be the same motor, but its not the same output. I still think the Lightning is a turd. Hence why they stopped making them, they couldnt sell, serve no purpose, and was a waste of company money.

I do not remember the syclone and typhoons as they are before my time but I do know about them and I have ridden in a few. Actually 2 cyclones and I have driven 1 typhoon and I will agree with you that those vehicles are nicer than the lightning. Yes, I am reffering to the second generation lighting with the eaton supercharged 5.4 liter, not the 1st generation turbo charged lightning. That rating for quarter mile times is prettyslow as I have seen MANY totally stock lightnings run mid 13's. No dyno tunes, no simple bolt ons and no pulleys. I also do know for a fact that for less than $500 a Lightning can be in the 12's. Also, the HD F-150 is rated at 14.2 as well so that's not a very good comparison. If you are going to use the argument that they are turds because Ford discontnued them because they weren't selling than the same must be said about the SRT10 pickup. I guess Dodge made a 500 hp 525 ft tq low 13's turd as well than. You may not be that experienced with the Lightning pickup trucks as most people are when they spout off rated numbers and talk them down and I was the same way until one of my friends got one 1.5 years ago and after riding in and driving his truck I have a new love for them. Oh yeah, driving around vegas there is a good amount of SRT10's and I have been in his truck twice when one picked on him to race and I just want to tell you that I have never seen SRT10 tail lights from a Lightning cab. He was stock a the time as well and the SRT10's did know we were racing as they rolled down their windows and initiated the race.

 

the SRT/10 has a VERY hard time hooking up because it DOES make the power. A stock lightning wont even chirp the tires at a WOT launch.

Frankly, we can go back and forth on this topic and the end result will be a lot of bashing, trash talk, and what if's. So I will say my peace and then move on to the next topic.

You like fords, I like horsepower. You think the lightning is the end all to be all, I think that NO vehicle is the best, as there is always something better.

 

I never said that the Lightning is the end all be all but I do think it needs more credit than some give it and that statement about it not even chirping the tires is about the most idiotic statement I have ever heard. I also don't like Ford, I actually hate Ford but I do like the Lightning because I am not automatically against a vehicle because of it's make and the reason I like the Lightning is because I like Horsepower. Also, if I had to pick I would take an SRT10 but I still think the Lightning isVERY good vehicle. I guess this post is no good though as you will not respond.

 

k those Harley trucks ar detuned lightnings with 4 doors! my audio guy has one and my quad cab had no problem keeping a nose to nose race with him. he pulls me up top sincs his truck is lower to the ground and a lot better handeling...all i have is intake and a cutout. they also make 250 turbo diesels that wopm my truck when they have a programmer.

give me a blower and see who comes out on top!! i think its crap that dodge can put out this amount of horse power NA when if you, look ford uses all superchargers to keep up ex... Ford gt, cobra, lighting etc.

 

I don't think it's crappy, I think it's a good idea as superchargers make a vehicle much easier to mod but I will agree that a supercharged hemi will spank a lightning.

Edit: I also never said they weren't detuned, all I said is that they have the same tranny, motor and blower as the lightning. Which they do.

 

the inside is very very nice though.. hell an 07 harley edition F-250 starts at $50,000!!!

 

if it is the same motor, tranny and blower then how are they different? that is contradictory..."they have the same stuff, but are slower and rated at less hp/tq"...i dont get it...anyway i wanted to say "sorry" for anyone who waste time reading this post i started, it was meant to be a post about me racing a ford harley edition truck...wasn't supposed to be about lightnings and srt10's and all this other nonsense. and motorider, please get a life

 

its a detuned lighting engine. add bigger wheels (more inertia to turn) and a quad cab and bingo... trucks a lil bit slower. lol wats there to waste? information?
