OEM Hitch vs. ???
I have been looking into getting a hitch for my 2006 RAM 1500 Mega Cab and have only gotten more confused by all the choices. The dealership parts and service folks are all but useless with questions about towing equipment.
At this point, I think I will just play it safe and go with the Dodge hitch with the Dodge 7-pin pigtail. I know that it will fit and that it will meet the truck's rated tow capacity. I am not too worried about saving a few bucks with some other brand hitch.
My will be towing a 6,000 lbs enclosed car trailer.
Any downside or other problems with the Dodoge hitch?

RE: OEM Hitch vs. ???
I just had a aftermarket one put on. I bought a used 2006 with no hitch. dealer wanted $600+ for OEM (MOPAR) or $300 for an aftermarket. I asked what the difference was and they said the aftermarket one is exactly the same exept it is not a MOPAR brand. Got them to throw the aftermarlket one in for free. They do not do aftermarket hitches at the dealerships, they used some contract company to do it. When I got the truck back we could not even tell the difference between the two when we compared them to the others on the lot. The hitch and wiring set up were exact. Hope this helps.

RE: OEM Hitch vs. ???
I did have a strange problem with mine although it's aftermarket and not OEM. When I bought my 26' camper, I went to put the hitch in the receiver and there was a plate weldeed to the back that would not allow the hitch to slide all the way in. It lacked about 1/4" letting me install the hitch pin. I took it to a welding shop - that just happened to be open at 9pm - and had it fixed but it was still a strange situation.
