a couple questions for you guys


1. is 24,000 miles out of the stock goodyears that come on the 06 bighorn edt. good or should i have gotten more miles out of them?

2. should i go with the same size brand of tire or get something else? (these are the ones on the 20in wheels and my truck is 2wheel drive, i do alot of pulling to, between my boat and cargo trailor)

i got 37000 out of mine and thats keeping in mind im a teenage driver, so lots of donuts, peel-outs, and power braking occured on that set of tires. if i drove easier on them i problly could have gotten more out of them. ive heard of ppl gettin almost 50k out of them, and i believe it. if i didnt love the smell of burnt rubber i would probably have gotten more miles out of mine. i just got the stock tires off of my dads 07 (which are the same ones i had before) and only have about 500 miles on them, so they should last me til i trade it in after college.

 

I'd do a search of the forum for Goodyear and tires. There have been lots of posts regarding all sorts of tires over the past year or so that should prove helpful. A lot of posters seem to hate em, while others like em. Probably depends upon your tastes and driving style.

Personally, I find them to be a harsh tire that transits a lot of road bumps and are prone to sliding on bumpy corners. The rubber is also relatively hard for better gas mileage and durability like most OEM tires.

I have a set of Toyo Open Country A/Ts (285/70R17) for winter driving and mount my Goodyear HPs (275/60R20) in the spring-summer-fall for a quieter ride. MPG is not noticeably different. I actually like the Toyos better most of time since they have better road feel and grip. But they are noticeably noiser.

I have 30k miles on the Goodyears and they look like they'll easily do another 15k-20k miles--I'm an easy driver. When they are gone, I'm replacing them with Bridgestone Alenza H/T 275/60R20. I use those on my Toyota Highlander and they are great.

ill agree with what reiderr said. in the rain, they dont do that great. even a little bit of water on the road, and if you have to accelerate hard into traffic youll spin all over the place, and you do feel EVERY bump on the road with them, but i have to say, my new ones absorb the bumps alot better than my old ones, but im sure in 37k miles theyll feel just the same as the old ones did. one thing i did notice though was that my gas mileage went up a considerable bit when i got the new ones put on.

 

i got 20K out of mine and that was the slowest 20K of my life....i hated those tires, hardly any traction in the rain or snow, and i didnt think they gripped the road that great, my truck is a 2wd also....now i have a set of 295/45/20 Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus, and i love them...excellent traction in rain and snow, superior traction on dry pavement...i couldnt have asked for a better tire

 

Another vote for terrible rain/snow traction and below average tread wear.
I will not buy goodyear. There are many tires with much more bang for your buck.

 

ya the stock tires SUCK. im purposly doing burnouts to hurry up and get them off my truck. if a lite mist occurs im screwed as far as acceleratin and turnin. hate em hate em hate em. they ride like concrete
