Official MPG 4th Gen Thread
We just made a trip from St Louis Mo to Seattle Wa and back. The truck is a 09 4x4 qaud cab with 3.55's and 20" wheels.
The truck averaged out at 18.somthing mpg according to the Wife after she sat down and figured out our fuel cost's. This was all at around 75mph with some 80mph sprints here and there.
In Nebraska on the way back there was some major road construction going on and the speed limit was 55mph but traffic was going 60mph. Holding it at 60mph netted us over 21mpg according to the Computer and that was for hour long intervals..
It gets better Milage than my Old 1997 Powerstroke thats for sure. It got around 20mpg at 55 and anything above that it sucked fuel big time.

Engine................................. Hemi
Highway percent................... 100 (I ran a tank of 100% highway)

Location.............................. Atlanta
Octane................................ 89
Hand or computer calc........... Both
Miles on truck....................... 2,500
Highway MPG........................ 22.5 MPG on the dash, 21.8 manually calculated (55-90 MPH)
City MPG.............................. 13.4 MPG on the dash, 12.3 manually calculated
Mods................................... Airaid intake, Mobil 1 oil
Notes.................................. Seen a peak of 24.2 on the dash display, highway @ 55 MPH
As for break-in, the owners manual said that a lengthy break-in was not required. I babied it for 500 miles, and then started driving normal. I have plenty of full throttle fun.
In my old 2007 4.7, I could get 24.5 mpg highway if I REALLY worked for it... 45-50 MPH, accel up to 90-100 down hill, coast up the other side slowing down to 20mph by the time I crested the top. I achieved the above figures under normal driving conditions, so in reality this far larger, far more powerful barge gets better gas mileage than the old regular cab truck with 30" tires and 3.55 gears. Amazing.

Just made a 425km Trip to Montreal and averaged 19 MPG at 70 Mph.

Mods: Soft tonneau (did nothing) and 75% of the way through the tank Mufflex.
Once again, the computer reads high as it does for most. In this case 1 MPG and I ran the tank to the point of needing 24 gallons. Maybe it would be closer if I ran it 25 gallons? I will give that a try another time. Driving habbits on this tank, all accelleration under 3K RPM with the exception of a couple WOT.

The computer seems to get better with age.

Thing to note, temps are getting cooler. Most of that tank only saw 60 as a high and lows down to 40. The cooler the temp the richer your truck runs.

Going between San Antonio and Houston I get about 16-17 going about 75-85 the whole way. Day to Day traffic going to work the MDS kicks in most the of the time anywhere from 30-50 mph which help sout a lot. I'm waiting on my Air Raid Intake and Mufflex 18" to arrive and I'll repost new figures.

Mods: Just running Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w20
switching over the valvoline full synthetic 5w20 made a big difference. My fuel mileage wasn't great until the truck hit 17,000 kms, then it made a big difference.
My valvoline reps are telling me I should switch over to the 5w40 premium blue extreme oil and I'll get even better fuel mileage.
of course, if I put the pedal to the rug, the truck roars my fuel mileage is shot, but driving mostly highway the fuel mileage isn't too bad, and I'm realy enjoying the truck so far!
In the spring, adding a set of 24's to it, with 285/40/24 tires, an AIRRAID CAI, a flowmaster super 44 muffler (truck has stock dual exhaust) and a soft tonneau cover to it, so will be interested to see what happens then to my fuel mileage.
one other thing to mention, my manual tells me I can get 10,000 kms (or approx 6,000 miles) between oil changes, however after 7000 kms (4200 miles) my fuel mileage really goes downhill until I change the oil over. Not sure whether its the filter starting to plug up, or oil starting to break down, but once the oil is changed, my fuel mileage pops back.

year 98
miles almost 150,000
engine 318 magnum
body quad cab shortbed
drive 2wd 3.55 gear
mods front leveling kit + 2 in lift 265/70 on 17" cold air intake, dual catback exaust, toolbox
65mph about 1650rpm 90 miles a day cruise control slow lane no traffic
87octane
driving on 95 to daytona from st. augustine every day
gps miles/gas pump fill up gal hand calc aprox 22mpg about 450miles between fill ups for 20gal
i think the best i got was 21.98 something multiple fill ups even more if i went by my Odometer (not recalibrated after bg tires)
might get better not that i cleaned the injectors with a half tank of gas and a bottle of seafoam
been running in the city and getting 15-17mpg
