Default oil changes every few thousand miles???!!??

are the rest of you having your truck tell you to change the oil every like 3k miles? I swear everytime I turn around the trucks telling me to change the oil. I've had the truck for less than a year and I've already changed the oil 4 if not 5 times

I change mine ever 3k whether it tells me to or not. I did this on my old furd too. You can switch to Mobil 1 and go a little longer between changes. But my preference is every 3k

Posted this before.

Mopar Mag had a good write up on the oil monitoring light.
http://www.moparmagazine.com/2009/ma...ing_light.html

There are six inputs used by the PCM. The factors which indicate severe use (and a shorter oil change interval) for each of these inputs are listed below:
  • [*]
If severe usage is determined, the oil change message is activated at 2,500 miles; otherwise, the message is not displayed until additional mileage has accumulated.

I have had the change oil light come on at 2500 miles, That was a time in which I did mostly very short trips (1-3 miles), during the winter. Most of the time I make it to the 6 month (3 to 5 K) without the light coming on, but I change the oil anyway at 6 months. Bottom line I only need to do 2-4 oil changes per year. with following the manual or light monitor (6 months or X miles, whichever comes first.)

My 08 comes on at 2500 miles regardless of how I drive it even though the manual says it takes into consideration, driving habits and such. Wife's Caliber does the 2500 mile thing too.
I let the dealer do all of my oil changes every 3K. It's cheap and all of my changes are on record for my warranty. They will do my Ram for around $25 unless I have a coupon.

I'm glad my '04 doesn't tell me when it wants it's oil changed. I change mine at 5k and use a 100% synthetic usually with a Wix filter (unless I step into a sale with a good oil and free filter combo as long as the filter is a Mobil 1, Purolator or any of the branded ones made by Champion Labs (RP, K&N, etc.)...

Mine usually is between 5000 and 6000. Towing or not. Depends on how its used. Its a pretty sophisticated set up. Isn't 2010s up go as far out as 8000 miles? Thats on a 5w20 oil that meets the specs.

the light comes on every 4200kms. and I am running modile1 synt. I decided to simply reset it, and I change it every 7500kms regardless.

well oil is changed. I use mobil 1 and a k&n filter everytime, but man it just seems way too frequent.
