Any way to get the new ipods to work with the ram?

Arachnyd,
before you go off the deep end, try changing the cable. Although it is a new IPOD, there is a possibility of a bad cable. I am saying this because I too had to buy a new IPOD, got the 7th GEN Nano, hooked up to USB and bam, worked first try. I was concerned about it after these posts. Hope this helps.

You've also got a 2013 ram... different Uconnect than the 2011s.

I'm going to post up an image in a minute. I ordered another cable so I'll give that a shot too.

Here's what I get.

First I get this for about 2 minutes:

Then I get this:

Here's my system information- In checking it against your information, it doesnt seem to hve the first TSBs recalled, so I wonder if thats it. Seems weird because I checked it before after loading the original fix when I bought the car to get my first ipod to work... unless I'm missing something? I did have a weird-hard reset thing happen to me about a month ago though right after my car was broken into- I lost all my sirius stations and stuff and even had to call sirius to get them to re-connect my account. Lost my saved stations too. Is it possible it could have reverted? I'm a computer guy and I don't know how that could have happened because it should override the old version and I don't think there would be a backup... phh.

Im loading the first update on the USB drive and I'll try to load it in the AM. I'll report back.

OK, I don't know if I'm blind or what... If someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong... I feel like I'm following your directions to the T. I got so frustrated I videtaped it. I tried both USB ports, all the different menu options I could think of...

I reformatted the disks and tried TWO different drives.

Arachnyd,
Ok, I see a couple things here with your pictures & video:

1) That "error occurred" issue is strange because you have one the SW update to fix that with the iPods. I am curious if you know someone that has a different iPod that you can try on your system to see if it reads and starts play correctly.
2) You mentioned "reformatting" 2 discs and tried 2 different "drives". I'm confused about the "discs" part.
Then I see you're using a thumb drive in the glovebox USB port. This is the correct location for any Uconnect updates on your system.
3) In the video, you're pressing and releasing the VR button, this is where you're having a problem. You need to press and release the white phone button, then say "set up, software update". You're getting that "misrecognition prompt" because the command that you're saying is not in the VR menu when pressing the <voice> button.

4) Which update are you trying to apply? The 2nd one or the original? Please don't try to apply it until I see your answer to this post, ok.
5) I think we're getting close to taking care of this for you.

I don't know anyone who has a 7th gen / lightning cable version. (which by the way I did try 2 different cables). I can try asking around and see what I can find. I do have an iphone I'll go try, but it works fine. The ipod works fine with all other interfaces including my other car, my home stereo, and an ipod-jukebox I have, and they should all interface similarly I suppose, although I am not certain.

Discs/Disks/Drives all interchangeable. I would call it a USB Disk Drive formally, so look at disks/drives as being shortened forms of it. Sorry for the confusion- I'm referring to USB drives on all accounts.

I did not know this! I thought the VR button was the uconnect button and the phone was a shortcut to the phone. Thanks for letting me know- That must be my issue and I'll do it differently next time.

I was going to install the original first and then if that install worked, I have a second flashdrive with the 2nd one because I read your warnings about installing the 2nd one before the first one was installed.

Thank you- I really do appreciate you taking the time to help out with this. What has made you take this uconnect issue under your wing so firmly and effectively? I know many of us would be lost without your help!

Arachnyd,
This is very odd that you're having issues. When I asked about a friend with an iPod,maybe I wasn't clear about what I was asking. I wanted to know if you have someone with any iPod that you can try on your system. I want to see if this "error occurred" shows up with a different ipod. You could use your Iphone to test this out.
Let me know what happens when you try a different iPod or your iPhone, ok. then we'll proceed.

I'm going to say something very very offensive here.

I fixed the problem- I bought a Chevy.

Thanks so much for your help xsdbs- you were very VERY helpful. I'm sorry I failed you as a student! I don't give up on things very often, but sometimes its easier to!
